Job Overview
The SHSS Clinical Counsellor plays a vital role in supporting children, youth, and families involved in Low-Barrier Short Term Stabilization Care. This position focuses on providing leadership in service planning, direct clinical interventions, and collaborative transition planning to ensure the well-being and development of children and youth. The counsellor works closely with families, caregivers, and community professionals to deliver high-quality, client-centred care.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Plan Development:
Co-leads the development of SHSS Service Plans in collaboration with children, youth, and their SHSS Care Circle.
Stabilization & Transition Planning:
Leads the creation and execution of stabilization and transition plans for each child or youth, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of professionals and community stakeholders.
Clinical Services:
Provides direct clinical services, including intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention, to children, youth, and families.
Comprehensive Care:
Conducts individual, group, and family therapy while ensuring treatment plans are holistic and tailored to the needs of the child/youth.
Collaboration:
Acts as a liaison with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other Ministry programs to enhance support for children, youth, and families.
Consultation & Mediation:
Offers clinical consultation and mediation services to families, caregivers, and service providers, supporting them with guidance and parent training (e.g., Emotion-Focused Family Therapy).
Education & Training:
Provides training and consultation for service provider personnel to strengthen the overall delivery of SHSS programs.
Documentation:
Maintains accurate clinical, client, and administrative records in compliance with program standards and policies.
Knowledge of Psychotropic Medications:
Maintains a basic understanding of psychotropic medications prescribed to children and youth and monitors their effects in collaboration with healthcare providers.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or a comparable graduate degree.
5 years direct clinical supervision experience in social services (working with children, youth, adults, and families).
Registered, and in good standing, with appropriate professional college(s) or association(s) (e.g., BC Association of Clinical Counselors).
This job requires the successful candidate to live in Vanderhoof or would consider a hybrid with the applicant travelling from Prince George 2-3 days a week. This position is not eligible to be fully remote.
