Description:

The Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP) provides International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with an alternate career path to become Clinical/Surgical Assistants. ACSAP programs put candidates through a six-month assessment and evaluation that, upon successful completion, can lead to a full-time and permanent acute care coverage role that addresses clinical and/or surgical coverage shortages. As a Clinical Assistant, you will work with our group to admit and care for patients with diverse medical needs, all while being supported by numerous specialist colleges. All clinical activities are performed under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. Some of the Clinical Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to, completing admissions, ordering and performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assessing and responding to the patient\'s medical needs as they arise and planning care throughout the patient\'s hospitalization, supporting the patient\'s discharge planning process as needed. 16 positions available.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant OR will hold a valid work permit at the time of application. Applicants must be a graduate of a medical school located outside of Canada and the United States, listed in the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Directory (IMED). As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have completed at least one full year (i.e.: May 1st to April 30th) of hands-on training after having obtained his/her medical degree. As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Canada with minimum required scores of 7.0 in each of the components within 24 months prior to registration Within the last three years, physicians need to have practiced independently, been in a regulated, supervised practice (in a role where the physician was not the most responsible physician) or been a part of a continuous postgraduate training program for a minimum of one year in the discipline you want to enter in Alberta. Fellowship training, community service, public service, national service, Medical Officer posts and practice experience do not fulfil this requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years. Recent experience (within the past three years) in an acute care setting.
