We are currently looking for Full Time Neurology Clinical Assistant to join our team at the Foothills Medical Centre located in Calgary, Alberta. Clinical Assistants are important members of the collaborative care team at Alberta Health Services (AHS) in Clinical Neurosciences functioning as mid-level providers under the supervision and direction of physician supervisor(s) to provide acute care coverage within our hospitals, making a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Clinical Assistants are registered for supervised practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) under the Limited Practice Registry and provide clinical support under the direction of AHS Medical Staff. In this position you will deliver care to patients at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) site within a multidisciplinary team in Neurology, with occasional cross coverage at the South Health Campus. The Clinical Assistant will provide acute Neurology call coverage for one weekend a month, in addition to providing continuity of care during the day weekdays at FMC for inpatient neurology. Calgary is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city with a population of over 1.2 million people and an excellent school system. Besides the rich academic environment, Calgary offers a wide array of sporting facilities and easy access to recreational parks including Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country. The Rocky Mountains with their serene beauty, provide ample opportunities to pursue winter and summer sports and leisure activities.

Description:

You will be responsible for providing ongoing medical management for acute neurologic patients under supervision of medical staff via daily rounds at FMC. You may also be asked to perform consultations in the emergency department or on the wards where you will assess patients for neurologic concerns. You will be expected to attend weekly educational rounds, in addition to multidisciplinary rounds which occur on a biweekly basis. As a result of these activities there will be considerable exposure to a wide variety of clinical problems in internal medicine and neurology which will be useful for future professional development. You will work as a part of a multidisciplinary team which includes neurologists, residents, medical students, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and nursing attendants. Your responsibilities will include: Rounding and ongoing management of neurologic and medical problems on the ward. Admission of new neurologic patients. Discharge of patients from the ward, involvement in discharge planning, transition planning and family meetings. One to two weekends of call coverage, which includes two shifts, at FMC (Friday PM 1700h - Saturday AM 1000h, and Sunday 0800h - Monday 1000h). Participating in various educational and patient related rounds. Appropriate supervision and support are provided and will begin with a rigorous formal orientation and assessment. ontribution to quality improvement projects regarding inpatient neurologic care.
