Position Description





The LaussenLabs group in the Department of Critical Care Medicine prospectively collects and permanently stores continuous physiological data streams on all patients in the 42-bed intensive care unit at the Hospital for Sick Children. This data is then used to model various physiologies, illnesses, and trajectories. We are seeking a Clinical Research Project Assistant to assist with various research projects in our lab. Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You Will Do The Clinical Research Project Assistant will work with clinical staff, software developer and other machine learning scientists on research projects in the broad area of pediatric critical care medicine and machine learning (ML). The work will mainly include:
  • Assisting software developers with developing physiological signal processing tools.
  • Assisting machine learning specialists with developing machine learning models to automate clinically relevant event detection.
  • Assist with developing production grade ML deployment pipelines.
  • Running machine learning tests and experiments.
  • Developing visualization tools to assess ML model performance.
  • Performing statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test results.
  • Writing unit and usability tests.
  • Keeping up-to-date with developments in machine learning and signal processing.
Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need
  • BSc Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with physiological signals (ECG, PPG, EEG, etc.).
  • An understanding of Machine Learning fundamentals.
  • Experience using deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch for time series applications.
  • Programming experience in Python with a grasp of software engineering standard methodologies such as code-reusability, modularity, use of repos, etc.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Casual, 1 year contract, with possibility of renewal as projects are ongoing
