Job Description


The School of Climate Change and Adaptation is seeking a Project Manager for the ClimateSense Program, funded by The Province of Prince Edward Island in response to the Building Resilience: Climate Adaptation Plan identifying priorities for climate adaptation training opportunities on PEI through the renewal and enhancement of the ClimateSense Program.

ClimateSense activities include two separate programs designed to continue building adaptation capacity and expertise in Prince Edward Island: the Early Career Adaptation Professional (ECAP) Program and the Climate Change Adaptation Training and Professional Development Program.

The candidate will be a professional with demonstrated skills in project management and administration, facilitation of training programs, stakeholder engagement, priority setting, and time management. Reporting directly to the Manager of Research Partnerships, the ideal candidate is solution oriented, self-motivated, and has demonstrated excellence in the management of complex stakeholder research projects in a university or NGO setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Create ClimateSense Program administration plan, recruitment strategy, and associated program resources in collaboration with UPEI, communications staff, provincial government staff, and industry associations
  • Review and evaluate anticipated federal cost sharing opportunities and liaise as needed
  • Redesign mentor recruitment and application process
  • Recruit and match interns, mentors, and host organizations
  • Redevelop and facilitate orientation for ECAP interns, mentors, and host organizations
  • Redevelop and schedule ECAP training sessions and materials
  • Provide mentor and intern support and guidance
  • Coordinate the Climate Change Adaptation Training and Professional Development Program calendar development (2024-25)
  • Develop and implement outreach strategy to promote participation in the Climate Change Adaptation Training and Professional Development Program
  • Identify and engage appropriate training professionals
  • Organize synchronization between the ECAP Program and the Climate Change Adaptation Training and Professional Development Program
  • Collaborate with UPEI, the provincial government staff, and mentor organizations to conduct project monitoring and evaluation
  • Liaise regularly with ClimateSense Program Team, Provincial Government and Industry Associations
  • Complete annual feedback reports based on summaries of input from mentors, interns, the Climate Change Secretariat, and stakeholders
  • Manage project personnel requirements; eg, participate in the recruitment processes and liaise with appropriate resources regarding personnel issues
  • Manage budgets, purchase equipment/supplies, and budget reporting
  • Organize and communicate with research teams, staff, collaborators, as well as stakeholders and funding partners
  • Administer the development and tracking of research compliance applications and amendments
  • Coordinate internal and external research communications with UPEI Communications, PEI Provincial Government and other media
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Applicants will hold an undergraduate degree in a related field and have a minimum of five years experience managing multi-partner research projects
  • Knowledge of UPEI processes, systems, and regulations will be considered an asset, as will prior knowledge or experience of Climate Adaptation procedures
  • Relevant experience managing complex research projects and research grant applications
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management of research budgets
  • Experience working with university, government, and community agencies in a collaborative, collegial manner
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
