Job Description


The School of Climate Change and Adaptation is seeking a UAV and GIS technician for the 2023 field season, as soon as possible to September 30th, 2023, to assist the research team in conducting its field research on precision agriculture and coastal erosion using UAV technology. The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in the activities of this research project.

The position is directly supervised by the Manager of Research Partnerships, although the incumbent works directly with research faculty and staff in the design, implementation, and execution of RPAS flights ad GIS analysis. The candidate will be a professional with demonstrated skills as a drone pilot, familiarity with agricultural technology and practices, and experience with a variety of AUV/GIS software suites.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in receiving and testing equipment UAV and geospatial equipment and software
  • Receiving UAV specific and software training where applicable
  • Assisting UAV missions related to ongoing projects
  • Assisting in Processing and analyzing UAV data
  • Assisting in the Maintenance of the fleet of UAVs
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience piloting UAVs
  • Experience using a variety of software suites is considered an asset, including: ArcGIS, Pix4D, Unity, Photoshop, Mission Planner, Drone Deploy, Flight Planner, Pix4D, Agisoft Photoscan
  • Experience collecting and post processing GPS data is considered an asset
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and independently and necessary
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
