Client Services Supervisor

Location: ALS Environmental, Whitehorse, YT

Reports to: Western Canada Regional Manager

About the Position:
This role is responsible as the location lead for the overall operation of the Whitehorse Service Centre. They are responsible for ensuring that the company goals and requirements are met for client satisfaction, deliverables, quality and safety.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Train and Supervise location staff (Client Services, General Assistants);
  • Oversee and/or carry out the preparation of sampling supplies and the login of returned samples;
  • Ensure all samples are submitted appropriately to the processing laboratory and track shipments to ensure receipt;
  • Allocates personnel and resources to maximize production, quality and efficiency;
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant environmental guideline and laboratory capabilities;
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment in the location;
  • Responsible for ensuring that the client service provided is consistent, timely, and meets ALS guidelines and quality standards;
  • Develops business relationships with key clients in conjunction with management, client services, and sales;
  • Actively participates in associations attended by clients and keeps abreast of market needs;
  • Respond to client queries pertaining to sampling supplies and returned sample submissions;
  • Provide assistance to sales with the development of client accounts;
  • Assist with formulation and implementation of a local business strategy.
  • Follows the strategic and business plan as established with the manager;
  • Assists in achieving EBIT targets, cost controls and cost savings;
  • Ensures the quality of all work and analytical data produced meet or exceeds company and market standards;
  • Ensures all staff are trained in all aspects of the Quality System and adhere to all appropriate SOPs and procedures;
  • Use correct location is following established procedures and schedules;
  • Assists the manager to manage Human Resources within the laboratory including:
o. Staffing, Shifts and workload management;
p. Oversee staff training programs (technical, supervisory, and safety);
q. Recruitment, induction;
r. Performance management.
  • Carry out the role as the local Safety First Aid representative;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a BSc degree or Technical diploma in Chemistry or related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in environmental chemistry or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 2 years experience a leadership role;
  • Minimum of 1 years experience in a laboratory setting;
  • Preference to be familiar with all applicable environmental legislation and regulations.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs such as coolers, etc.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as keyboarding;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift.
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
