Job Description

**This posting is for one (1) Temporary, Full-Time position that may continue for 12 months**
The Edmonton Police Service requires one (1) Digital Evidence Management Technician to fulfill a critical role in the Digital Evidence Management Unit. As a Digital Evidence Management Technician, you will process and disclose digital evidence and information from various sources including body-worn video, security and surveillance systems, internally produced recordings for investigative purposes, and other born-digital or digitized sources. You will play a critical role in ensuring and maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and authenticity of EPS' digital evidence.
Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensuring digital evidence is correctly named, indexed, and categorized for effective retrieval and management.
  • Performing quality checks by cross-referencing information to identify any incomplete, incorrect, or duplicate entries.
  • Analyzing records from different sources to ensure all digital evidence has been captured in the Digital Evidence Management System.
  • Maintaining the Digital Evidence Management System and ensuring that the proper controls are in place for access to this data.
  • Ensuring redaction markers are accurately inserted prior to submitting to the Crown for approval.
  • Using various technologies and a range of software techniques to vet and/or convert media evidence.
  • Recording all procedures followed and technologies used during the redacting and vetting processes, with the knowledge and understanding that this information is subject to disclosure.
  • Liaising with Forensic Video Analysis Detail (FVAD) when video requires further analysis, enhancement, or editing.
  • Responding to, and fulfilling, Court disclosure requests for digital evidence in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Managing multiple priorities and requests, ensuring they are fulfilled within the required timeframe.
  • Providing recommendations for process improvement.
  • Performing administrative functions and other related duties to support EPS' digital evidence management program.
  • Performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade including business subjects with emphasis on subjects related to the area of specialization or completion of an appropriate certificate program from an approved business school/college.
  • Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible experience in the area of specialization (digital evidence, investigative records and/or media files).
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with the Criminal Code of Canada, Canada & Alberta Evidence Acts, Alberta Provincial Policing Standard, Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles, and privacy legislation (ATIA & POPA).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication, and display professionalism, sound judgement, and sensitivity when dealing with confidential information.
  • Capacity to deal with graphic and disturbing video, audio, and photographic content.
  • Success in this role requires a high degree of efficiency, thoroughness, and the ability to adapt to changing work priorities to meet disclosure requirements.
  • Experience in operational policing (e.g., former police officer) would be a significant asset.
  • Experience working in a court or law enforcement setting would be an asset.
  • LEVA/forensic video training would be an asset.
  • Proficiency with media programs such as: Adobe Premiere Pro, AVS Converter, WavePad Sound Editor, and Omnivore would be an asset.
  • Applicants may be required to undergo a knowledge or skills assessment test.
Hours of Work:
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 0800 - 1630. Subject to change. Some after-hours or on-call work may be required.
Salary Range:
21B, Salary Grade: 013, $27.81- $34.87 (Hourly), $2,225.00 - $2,790.10 (Bi-Weekly), $58,073.54 - $72,821.09 (Annually).
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
