Job Background & Summary:

We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened a full-time position for a Civil/Structural Engineer (Intermediate or Senior level) to join our team on a full-time basis. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC.

The selected individual will have disciplinary responsibility for a small core team supporting power infrastructure projects across a variety of projects for BC Hydro, FortisBC and TransLink. Key activities include POR for civil/structural, developing and implementing procedures for the efficient delivery of work, liaising with project stakeholders, performing quality assurance functions and completing project designs. The scope of projects is predominantly structural with minor civil scopes.

The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team delivering utilities/infrastructure projects. We are looking for people that take ownership, are career motivated, well organized and detail oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Our operation in New Westminster, BC is under a Hybrid Work Model, 3 days in office, 2 days from home.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and client\xe2\x80\x99s Design Practices.
• Civil/Structural Design/Engineering of concrete foundations and steel structures
• Responsible for the overall quality of design work through oversight, checking and reviewing.
• Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviews.
• Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Define design scope and resolve design issues in a manner that is consistent with design objective.
• Design, analysis and detailing of concrete, steel, masonry and timber structures associated with utilities/infrastructure clients.
• Independently analyze and resolve a variety of challenging and unusual engineering problems
• Participates in short-and long-range planning for civil structural personnel requirements and pursuit of client\xe2\x80\x99s projects.
• Ability to use standard industry analysis software or hand/excel calculations to effectively perform the duties.
• Travel to various sites around the province (BC) to perform engineering duties
• Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with client\xe2\x80\x99s project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, calculations, hazard logs, test plans)
• Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
• Conduct design review of work completed by internal and external consultants to ensure design standards and specifications are met.
• Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, as well as undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.

Job Requirements:

• Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
• A minimum of 6-8 years of combined experience in utilities/infrastructure Civil/Structural design.
• A minimum of 2 years structural design experience on power utility substation projects.
• Experience with concrete and steel design
• Familiar and proficient with National and local building codes, Canadian design standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient using MS Office.

Considered an asset

• Practical experience with seismic static design and understanding for dynamic analysis.
• Professional and engineering level of proficiency using SAP2000 (or other transferable programs), RISA 3D, and Excel or MathCAD.
