Rural Roots Engineering and Design Ltd is a full-service engineering consultancy focused on the needs of the rural economy in Atlantic Canada. Although we have considerable expertise in agricultural and food process engineering, we are happy to work on a range of commercial and light industrial projects.

We are seeking an experienced

Civil Designer

to support the design and delivery of land development and municipal infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience preparing stormwater management plans, site grading designs, and civil engineering drawings. This role combines technical design work, field involvement, and client/consultant coordination, offering an opportunity to play a key role in shaping sustainable site development solutions.

Key Responsibilities



Design & Drafting:

Prepare civil drawings, grading plans, and stormwater management designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent software.

Technical Support:

Assist engineers in preparing stormwater models, reports, and design calculations in accordance with municipal and environmental standards.

Field Review & Documentation:

Conduct site visits to support construction review, confirm grading and servicing installations, and prepare field reports.

Collaboration & Coordination:

Work with clients, municipalities, and other consultants to resolve technical issues and ensure project requirements are met, with a level of urgency that matches stakeholder expectations.

Qualifications



Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline. 3-6 years of relevant experience in land development, site servicing, or municipal infrastructure. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, alignments, surfaces, and pipe networks). Knowledge of stormwater management modeling software (e.g., SWMM, HydroCAD, or equivalent) is an asset. Strong understanding of grading principles, stormwater design, and municipal servicing standards. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication skills, with confidence interacting with clients, contractors, and municipal staff.
