We are looking for a City Solicitor to provide legal advice and representation for legal matters in the fields of corporate, commercial, real estate, administrative and municipal law.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DCAO), you will serve as legal advisor to the Chief Administrative Officer and DCAO, senior management and staff on diverse legal, administrative and regulatory proceedings.
Requirements
You will be in good standing with the Law Society, licensed to practice law in British Columbia and in possession of at least 10 years of related experience. You will have a demonstrated understanding of municipal law, including extensive knowledge of fundamental principles and practices relating to local government legislation, municipal bylaws, policies and procedures, with particular experience in contract drafting and negotiation and freedom of information and protection of privacy law. Experience in corporate governance and/or real estate transactions would be an asset. You are conversant with relevant statutes, regulations and bylaws, and adept at providing research and analysis on the legal implications of matters of law, legislation, procedures and operational strategic decisions. You have the ability to communicate effectively - orally and in writing - with Council, senior management, staff and the public to obtain an understanding, agreement/and or approvals related to policies and programs. Your communication skills will include superior presentation, negotiation, conflict management and interpersonal skills. You have a proven ability to plan and prioritize a varied workload and meet objectives on your own initiative, through good problem solving, whilst exercising wide independent judgement when working in accordance with, and limited by, statutes and legal precedents.
During the recruitment process, applicants will be required to provide a current Police Information Check (PIC).
Compensation
We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position, including a compressed work schedule as part of the full time schedule. The salary range is $179,016 - $209,388 annually (2024 rates). Salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity.
