BGC York Region Club serves children and youth in the York Region and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs. We are looking for motivated people to facilitate our after-school children\xe2\x80\x99s\xe2\x80\x99 program for the 2022-2023 school year for children ranging from grades 5-8.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of the After-School Program for children and youth meeting Ontario\xe2\x80\x99s After School Program Guidelines 2022/2023
  • Promote the core values of BGC Canada and achieve its operating standards
  • Implement and facilitate effective physical education, recreational and nutrition activities that engage learners and reflect the various learning styles of Club members
  • Provide participants with instruction on a variety of motor skills and physical activities designed to enhance development of every participant
  • Supervise participants in the program, and promote safety, respect, conflict resolution, leadership and life skills
  • Identify and secure program materials, equipment and resources, including art supplies and snacks
  • Ensure the safety and security of the participants in the program
  • Maintain health and safety standards of food, and areas of food storage and preparation
  • Liaise with parents/guardians on issues of concern or relevance to their children
  • Maintain communication and close working relationships with local school administrators and post-secondary interns and placement students\xe2\x80\x99 supervisors
  • Maintain a professional relationship with peers, members, volunteers, parents and members of the public
  • Enforce policies and procedures and initiate discipline process when required
  • Ensure weekly member attendance is monitored and coordinate with administrative staff to maintain accurate documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Educational background, passion, and/ or work experience applicable to the position.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, STEM, recreation, education, health and nutrition.
  • Ability to work as team members in a dynamic, complex environment.
  • Supervision and program planning skills (asset)
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification (asset)
  • Police Reference Check (to be completed upon hiring)
  • High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development training (asset)
