Job Description

The Families Matter Society of Calgary strives to promote optimal child development and family resilience by helping caregivers learn about early childhood development, by providing concrete supports in times of need; by helping families build strong relationships, and by creating lasting, supportive social networks among families.

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to provide centre-based childcare support to families with children newborn to six during adult learning or parent & child group programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Some post-secondary training in early childhood development (Diploma, Certificate, etc) Belief that children grow and develop through caring, nurturing and child focused interactions. Ability to maintain a high-quality environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children. Strong knowledge of early childhood development. Strong oral and written communication skills. Self-directed, and able to take initiative.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support to children with various degrees of need in child support environment while caregivers attend programs in another part of the building. Establish and maintain a supportive environment for children and families. Build trusting relationships with children to allow them to feel comfortable and safe during childcare time. Provide developmentally appropriate activities to infants and children. Address concerns and implement effective interventions with children, utilizing advanced strength-based strategies through a lens of attachment. Support children in the development of their self-help skills and independence. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with families. Ability to work in partnership to maintain cleanliness and organization of the space. Is able to travel to locations where childcare shifts are available. Maintain best practice, a high quality of service.




Shifts take place at one of four sites: Horizon Family Centre (3404 25 St NE), Midnapore Family Centre (#101 239 Midpark Way SE), Children's Cottage (1804 Home Rd NW), or the Bowness Trellis Club (7930 Bowness Rd NW, Suite 36).





Childcare shifts required can occur during the evenings, weekdays and Saturday mornings. There are no minimum hours guaranteed, and specific schedules will be determined with the successful candidates.

Hourly Wage: $18.00
