: Childcare Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor or Designated Supervisor in absence of Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
Demonstrated ability to cook and serve a well-balanced nutritional and economical menu to a large group
Infant and Child First Aid and CPR certification
Holds a Food Handlers certification (or must take next available training session and maintain through employment)
Up to date immunizations
Criminal reference vulnerable sector check
Additionally: WHMIS training, Ministry of Education self-test and Occupational Health and Safety Certificate

Standard I: Caring and Responsive Relationships
Principle
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs) understand that strong, positive relationships contribute to healthy child development and are necessary for children's well-being and learning. Building and maintaining caring and responsive relationships with children, families and colleagues is fundamental to the practice of RECEs.
When needed, support/cover in a sleep room. Support in creating and promoting a positive and relaxing sleep environment.
Support the team in maintaining an environment that conveys a sense of calm, order and consistency. Step into ratio when required or asked.
Be mindful of family differences. Consider and respect different values and practices. Work cooperatively to meet each family's needs while educating on licensing and public health requirements.
Respect parents' position as the primary caregiver.
Standard II: Curriculum and Pedagogy
Principle
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs) co-construct knowledge with children, families and colleagues. They draw from their professional knowledge of child development, learning theories and pedagogical and curriculum approaches to plan, implement, document and assess child-centred, inquiry and play-based learning experiences for children.
Works with the centre supervisor and the team in serving nutritious and appealing meals / snacks; considering children's ages, nutritional needs, cultural and religious practices and allergies.
Supports and fosters children's pride in their heritage by incorporating foods that reflect family backgrounds in a way that makes these a part of the everyday program.
Standard III: Safety, Health and Well-Being in the Learning Environment
Principle
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs) intentionally create and maintain environments that support children's play and learning as well as contribute to a sense of belonging and overall well-being. They ensure that the environment is safe and accessible for all children and families. They also ensure that the environment reflects the values and diversity of the community.
Ability to identify potential or actual health hazards in the childcare centre and takes appropriate action to address them.
Creates and maintains a sanitary environment that minimizes the risk of infection or food contamination, following all Public Health guidelines.
Assists children with proper hand washing / eating, teaching them self-help skills and good hygiene.
Completes all daily / weekly / monthly cleaning lists. Ensures that the kitchen and centre remains clean (free of debris or unsafe clutter) and is sanitized regularly. Taking the time to complete deep cleans when time allows.
Constantly monitors all areas frequented by children for hygienic and safety conditions.
Teaches children good safety practices to help develop an overall awareness of safety.
Works with parents and the team to accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies.
If covering in program, completes accident, illness or incident reports when necessary. Administers first-aid as required and keeps supervisor informed of all incidents requiring first-aid or parent communication.
Appropriately storages food and food leftovers. Waste is kept to a minimum during preparation and cleaning.
Ensures all storage areas are always at the proper temperature according to the Health Department Regulations. Follows all rules and regulations set out by the Department of Health / Health Unit.
Rotate the laundry throughout the day.
Standard IV: Professionalism and Leadership
Principle
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs) demonstrate professionalism in their relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the communities in which they practise. They are reflective and intentional professionals who engage in continuous professional learning. RECEs collaborate with others to ensure high quality early childhood education. All registered early childhood educators, regardless of position or title, are leaders.
Regularly participate in Program Statement Review process. Identify and set goals for self-improvement or program improvement.
Access community resources, including online recipes or cook networks to enhance the program. Attend any workshops that become available.
Become familiar with policies and procedures around allergies. Ability to answer basic questions from parents regarding these policies.
Being able to serve a meal that implements a variety of different food textures and flavours, taking into account different cultures and types of food.
Ensure that the supervisor is aware of any problems or concerns involving the kitchen. Discuss arising issues.
Ability to work as a team and implement shared goals with initiative and positivity.
Participates in monthly staff meetings and completes necessary paperwork.
Time management skills. Ability to cook on time / bring carts to classrooms on time and complete the dish washing in a timely manner. Recognize duties that should be done first to ensure a productive flow of the day.
Keeps track of what supplies are already bought and what supplies are needed. Connecting with the supplier about anything that needs to be bought.
Ability to train others who come into the kitchen. Teaching them where items go, how to properly wash and dry dishes. Shows kindness to team members who are unaware of the kitchen duties.
Standard V: Professional Boundaries, Dual Relationships and Conflicts of Interest
Principle
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs), by virtue of their professional role and responsibilities, hold positions of trust and responsibility with regard to children under their professional supervision. RECEs understand the importance of maintaining professional boundaries with children, families and colleagues. They are aware of dual relationships and identify and declare conflicts of interest when they arise and take action to prevent harm to children or their families.
Not using professional position to persuade, improperly influence, harass, abuse or exploit a child who is under their professional supervision, their families or colleagues.
Ensure that the information shared and received from families are appropriate and relevant information.
Ensure that communication with children, families and colleagues are professional.
Cell phones will not be used in program or in the kitchen, unless permitted by the supervisor.
Standard VI: Confidentiality, Release of Information and Duty to Report
Principle
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs) respect the confidentiality of information related to children and families and obey all laws pertaining to privacy and the sharing of information. RECEs disclose such information only when required or allowed by law to do so or when the necessary consent has been obtained for the disclosure of the information. They understand that as a result of their professional knowledge and role, they are in a unique position to recognize possible signs of child abuse, neglect and family violence, and have a particular duty to report their suspicions.
Photos or videos taken of the children from the classroom tablet will not be posted on any type of social media.
Children's personal information will not be shared with other families or outside parties. RECE's will only disclose information that would be considered confidential to the Children's Aid Society (CAS), if they are reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
Recognize the signs and symptoms of possible neglect or physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Adhere to centre policies and the current laws in regards to reporting suspicions.
Responsible for knowing the employer's policy on reporting suspected child abuse.
Failure to report any signs of possible neglect, physical, emotional or sexual abuse is contrary to the law and could constitute professional misconduct. It is the RECE's responsibility to report the possible child abuse or neglect, it cannot be reported by someone else for them.
RECE's are recommended to speak to the supervisor about contacting CAS in regards to suspicions of possible child abuse or neglect.
