We're Hiring: Director Position at Aspen Lakes Discovery Center
Start Date: September 2025 | $27/hour + Government Wage Top-Up | Salaried: 90 hours/pay period
Aspen Lakes Discovery Center is looking for a passionate and experienced Childcare Center Director to lead our team starting September 2025. This leadership role involves overseeing daily operations, maintaining licensing and safety standards, and supporting educators, families, and children with care and professionalism.

Located in Blackfalds, Alberta
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Center Operations & Compliance
Ensure licensing, AHS, OHS, and ALDC policies are followed
Maintain daily ratios and support in classrooms when needed
Oversee staff attendance, clock-ins, break coverage, and end-of-day transitions
Administer medications and oversee health/safety routines daily
Complete headcounts and conduct spot checks on supervision and ensuring licensing regulations are being followed by staff
Communicate with families regarding absences and daily needs
Staff Leadership & HR Support
Manage call-ins and arrange staff coverage (including across locations)
Conduct staff reviews, monthly check-ins, and mentorship
Lead staff training, onboarding, and performance management
Organize and lead monthly staff meetings/PD days
Support staff with challenging behaviors, guidance, and accountability
Approve/track staff vacation, mental health, and sick days
Program & Classroom Oversight
Monitor classroom programming, planning, and environment quality
Ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization of classrooms and play spaces
Maintain adequate consumables, materials, and equipment
Provide support for children with diverse needs and apply for external supports (ICC, ASaP, ARCQE)
Administrative & Financial Duties
Track budgets, monthly spending, and receipts
Maintain and update staff and child files, calendars, and communication logs
Apply for PD and release time funding as needed
Monthly admin work, with some knowledge of Microsoft word and excel.
Family & Community Engagement
Support families with resources, meetings, and ongoing communication
Plan and participate in events like potlucks, fundraisers, and interviews
Handle tours for prospective families
Facility, Van, & Outdoor Maintenance
Coordinate with contractors and handyman for repairs
Ensure classrooms, bathrooms, laundry, and storage areas are maintained
Maintain van safety, fuel levels, and transport kindergarten children
Oversee outdoor play area safety, cleanliness, and seasonal needs (snow/ice)
You Are a Great Fit If You Have:
Child Development Supervisor Certification (Level 3)
2+ years in an early childhood leadership role
Knowledge of Alberta Licensing, AHS, OHS, and early childhood frameworks
A heart for children, a mind for systems, and a passion for supporting educators
