Chief Of Staff To The Ceo

This is a unique opportunity to see every aspect of a fast-growing, venture-backed startup at the CEO level.

This is a highly dynamic role with unprecedented breadth. You will be asked to work with various areas of the business, with responsibilities changing weekly. The position is loosely divided into two types of work:

- Structured and recurring work - such as running leadership team meetings, developing high-impact company presentations, reporting, and yearly strategy planning.

- High-priority special projects - projects in areas that the CEO is interested in driving forward but needs more capacity to do so, which may include (but are not limited to) optimizing our organization structure, expanding into new geographic regions, and leading executive searches.

We are welcoming applicants from Toronto, Canada for this position.

While BenchSci is a remote-first organization, this position must be in the Toronto office for 2+ days per week.*While this is a temporary position, there is potential for extension or permanent placement following the initial tour of duty, depending on business needs.

You Will:

  • Act as a thought partner and drive strategic decisions in alignment with key stakeholders
  • Act as a communication arm for the CEO, creating and managing regular company-wide updates, presentations, emails, and blog posts
  • Facilitate senior leadership team meetings, preparing all pre-work (agenda, pre-reads, etc.), and following up on action items to ensure forward movement
  • Lead the planning and execution of our annual Scientific Advisory Board Summit - our most important customer event of the year
  • Manage end-to-end special projects that are urgent and important, monitoring their status, removing blockers, and driving momentum
  • Manage a team of senior professionals in the Office of the CEO team, including the CEO\'s Executive Assistant
  • Project-manage cross-team initiatives-removing blockers, escalating, and intervening where applicable
  • Keep a pulse on company culture and appropriately acknowledge successes and concerns to ensure the CEO adequately addresses them
  • Build and maintain credibility throughout the business as a strategic advisor and team player
You Have:
  • 4+ years of experience with at least 2 of which include exposure to consulting, startup, or VC spaces
  • 2+ years in a role directly owning client relationships
  • Proven ability to exercise sound and independent judgment in a variety of different situations
  • Top-notch verbal, written, and presentation communication, project management, and organizational skills
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, events, convenings, and planning sessions
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, be self-driven, multitask, and manage dynamically changing, competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture while also jumping into the weeds to move projects forward
  • Proven ability to build relationships at all levels within an organization, from entry-level to C-Suite

  • Experience working at a startup
  • Educational background or work experience in a life sciences-related discipline
