Commissionaires, Victoria, the Islands and Yukon (CVIY) is looking for a Chief Executive Officer to replace our incumbent CEO who is retiring after seven years of service to CVIY and the Corps of Commissionaires. Situated in beautiful Victoria, BC the new CEO would work out of our Headquarters Office on Cloverdale Avenue. About CVIY and the Challenge CVIY is Vancouver Island\xe2\x80\x99s largest private security services company, with approximately 800 employees. The division is one of the leading non-government and not-for-profit (NPO) employers on Vancouver Island. CVIY\xe2\x80\x99s enduring mandate is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, their families and others who wish to contribute to the security and well-being of Canadians. CVIY is a member division within the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires (the Federation or the Corps). We are seeking a new CEO to lead the CVIY team and continue to enhance, grow and diversify our business. Pursuant to Board policies and strategic direction, the CEO provides CVIY with strategic and operational leadership to ensure a thriving business as a full-service security solutions provider, in fulfillment of the Division\xe2\x80\x99s mandate within the Corps. The successful candidate should be prepared to make a minimum five-year commitment to the position. The goal is to have the successful incumbent in place by June 2023. Key Accountabilities and Job Requirements

  • Fosters and maintains a productive relationship with the Board of Governors (Directors) through compliance with Board Policies, ensuring the Board receives timely and complete reporting on the operational management, administration, human resources, policy direction, and financial performance and controls of the Division.
  • Provides organizational leadership and oversight to CVIY\xe2\x80\x99s approximately 800 full time and part time employees.
  • Ensures the on-going viability and growth of the Division by developing, for Board approval, the Division\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plan, reporting on progress and/or risks addressed, and evaluating results achieved.
  • Generates organizational commitment to the vision and action that is aligned with the organization\xe2\x80\x99s strategic direction and business plans and in general supports the objectives of the National Federation Strategic Plan.
  • Seeks out and cultivates new business opportunities for employment of Commissionaires within the Division that align with the Division\xe2\x80\x99s social mandate.
  • Strengthens the Division\xe2\x80\x99s brand/reputation by establishing and maintaining effective relations with stakeholders, including clients, regulatory authorities, government agencies, union officials and the business community at large.
  • Oversees financial performance and risk profile while ensuring that all the regulatory obligations are met.
  • Oversees the cost-effective delivery of security and enforcement services to clients throughout Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, Haida Gwaii and the Yukon Territory, and supports a robust ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management system.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with Commissionaires Canada, (the Federation or the Corps of 15 Commissionaire Divisions), by actively contributing to and participating in national and regional initiatives.
  • Ensures fair and consistent treatment of all employees with uniform application of corporate policies, values, and practices.
  • Develops, inspires, and directs an effective leadership team to achieve the Division\xe2\x80\x99s objectives, initiatives, and financial sustainability.
  • Promotes an effective communication and marketing program to grow market share and oversees media relations.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Board.
Qualifications, experience, and skills we are looking for in our CEO
  • Minimum Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred in business, finance or other applicable discipline from a recognized university, or an acceptable combination of relevant education, training and experience.
  • Experience in transforming a business vision into clear strategies to achieve the desired results.
  • Experience in Acquisitions and/or Mergers to grow and diversify the business.
  • Experience in establishing, developing and maintaining innovative business partnerships, relations with union officials and working with colleagues nationally and regionally.
  • Experience in strategic and operational planning and execution, marketing, and public relations.
  • Proven success and experience in business development, including commercial for-profit entities.
  • Proven success and experience in capitalizing on opportunities and challenges.
  • Minimum 10 years progressive, results-oriented experience in a strategic and operational leadership role.
  • Ability to travel as required to sites, clients and for national meetings.
  • Knowledge of financial systems, controls, and budgetary reporting procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, team building, problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to promote a productive and harmonious work environment.
  • Self-awareness and the ability to read situations accurately, responding effectively and adjusting to changing conditions.
  • Good computer skills, including the ability to prepare documents using Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Desirable attributes
  • Experience in the security industry.
  • Understanding of public and private sector business operations.
  • American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) accreditation.
  • Former member of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP or other police force.
