Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Science Stores, the Chemical Inventory, Dangerous Good, and Science Supply Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Negotiating the best pricing schedules, maintaining a supply of the highest quality and most economical end products, and for supplying fast and efficient service to all end users (faculty, staff and students).
  • Maintaining an accurate chemical/consumables inventory system for the Science Stores.
  • Financial account reconciliation of the Science Stores.
  • Performs other Science Store duties as required.
Qualifications: The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
  • The incumbent must be completely conversant with product terminology, chemical hazards, biological/biochemical hazards, radiation policies and hazards.
  • Has excellent knowledge of biology and chemistry principles and practices is essential.
  • Has excellent organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills and has the ability to work under stress and maintain a pleasant manner.
  • A majority of analyses are done on computers and therefore, has knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database is essential.
  • The ability to recommend improved methods of control within the Science Stores.
  • The incumbent has the ability to keep current on changing technology in the area of chemistry/biology/biochemistry and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and structure as well as familiarity with regulations and procedures in relation to many of the functional aspects of the Faculty of Science are definite assets.
Education and Experience: The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
  • Bachelor of Science, Honours degree
  • Two years of related experience in scientific supplies and store environment with basic accounting knowledge.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, First Aid and CPR.
