Responsabilites principales



Diriger la creation, la population et la gestion de simulations de foules complexes a l'aide de Houdini. Definir l'approche globale du comportement de foule, des systemes d'agents et de l'execution des plans a travers le projet. Superviser le developpement, l'optimisation et la maintenance des bibliotheques d'agents, incluant les clips d'animation, la logique comportementale et la diversite visuelle. Superviser la conception et la mise en oeuvre de performances credibles de personnages d'arriere-plan qui soutiennent l'histoire, la mise en scene et la composition. Garantir l'utilisation efficace des techniques d'animation procedurale, des cycles de mouvement et de la variation des agents pour un rendu realiste et efficace. Examiner les configurations de foule au niveau des plans et des sequences afin de maintenir la continuite visuelle et la coherence technique. Resoudre les defis de simulation avances -- navigation des agents, evitement, trajectoires, arbres comportementaux, problemes de blending, etc. Travailler etroitement avec l'Eclairage et le FX pour garantir une integration fluide des elements de foule, repondant aux standards de qualite et aux exigences de rendu. Identifier les goulots d'etranglement du workflow et proposer des ameliorations de pipeline et d'outils pour optimiser la performance et l'evolutivite.

Collaboration & Workflow



Collaborer avec l'Animation, le Layout, le CFX, l'Eclairage et le FX pour garantir que les elements de foule soutiennent la vision artistique et repondent aux besoins techniques. Participer et diriger les revues specifiques au crowd, les dailies et les reunions de planification afin de s'aligner sur la direction creative et les priorites de production. Travailler avec le Superviseur CG et la Production pour anticiper la complexite, les besoins d'horaire et la planification des ressources pour les sequences riches en foule. Collaborer avec les equipes Pipeline/TD pour developper ou ameliorer les outils crowd, les comportements, les utilitaires de debug et les bibliotheques d'agents. Offrir mentorat, conseils et soutien technique aux artistes crowd de tous niveaux. Documenter les workflows, maintenir les standards du departement et assurer des pratiques coherentes de nommage, d'organisation et de caching.

Gestion du temps & Communication



Prioriser les taches pour l'equipe crowd et assurer la livraison ponctuelle d'assets et de simulations de haute qualite sur plusieurs sequences. Communiquer clairement avec la Production concernant l'avancement, les enjeux, les dependances et les risques eventuels pour la livraison. S'adapter aux notes creatives changeantes et equilibrer vitesse d'iteration et stabilite technique a long terme. Preparer des scenes organisees, des reseaux lisibles et des handoffs propres pour les departements en aval. Faciliter le depannage efficace et maintenir une attitude calme et axee sur la solution durant les periodes de forte production.

Ce que vous apporterez



Experience



Experience prealable en tant qu'Artiste Crowd Senior ou Chef d'Equipe Crowd en animation long-metrage, TV, VFX ou productions temps reel. Solide experience avec Houdini Crowd et familiarite avec des outils tels que Golaem, Massive ou des systemes proprietaires. Experience en gestion de petites equipes, incluant la retroaction, l'estimation des taches et la direction technique.

Competences & Communication



Excellente comprehension des principes d'animation, du comportement de foule, de l'edition de mouvement et de la choregraphie de scene. Maitrise avancee des workflows proceduraux bases sur des nodes. Bonne comprehension de la simulation, du caching, de l'optimisation et du reglage de performance des plans. Experience avec les workflows de rendu et le depannage de problemes lies aux foules. Excellentes competences en communication et en leadership; capable de mentorer, guider et collaborer efficacement entre les departements. Experience avec Maya, ShotGrid et les outils de collaboration pipeline (un atout). Competences en scripting (Python, VEX) fortement appreciees pour automatiser les workflows et developper des outils.

Des simulations de foule avec interactions d'agents a grande echelle ou complexes. L'utilisation de Houdini avec breakdowns de plans. Des exemples clairs de logique comportementale, variation de mouvement, utilisation de cycles/clips et diversite d'agents. Des plans montrant l'integration avec environnements, eclairage, layout et FX. Des exemples de resolution de problemes, notes techniques ou contributions aux outils. Toute responsabilite de direction d'equipe (si applicable) : direction, notes de review, ameliorations pipeline.

What You'll Do



Core Responsibilities



Lead the creation, population, and management of complex crowd simulations using Houdini. Define the overall approach for crowd behavior, agent systems, and shot execution across the show. Guide the development, optimization, and maintenance of agent libraries, including animation clips, behavior logic, and visual diversity. Oversee the design and implementation of believable background character performances that support story, staging, and composition. Ensure procedural animation techniques, motion cycles, and agent variation are utilized effectively for realism and efficiency. Review crowd setups at both individual shot and sequence levels to maintain visual continuity and technical consistency. Troubleshoot advanced simulation challenges--including agent navigation, avoidance, pathing, behavior trees, and blending issues. Work closely with Lighting and FX to ensure crowd elements render correctly, meet quality standards, and integrate seamlessly into final frames. Identify workflow bottlenecks and propose pipeline and tool improvements for better performance and scalability.

Collaboration & Workflow



Partner with Animation, Layout, CFX, Lighting, and FX to ensure crowd elements support artistic vision and meet technical requirements. Attend and lead crowd-specific reviews, dailies, and planning meetings to align with creative direction and production priorities. Collaborate with the CG Supervisor and Production to forecast complexity, schedule needs, and resource planning for crowd-heavy sequences. Work closely with Pipeline/TD teams to build or refine crowd tools, behaviors, debug utilities, and agent libraries. Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to crowd artists of all levels. Document workflows, maintain department standards, and ensure consistent naming, organization, and caching practices across the team.

Time Management & Communication



Prioritize tasks for the crowd team and ensure timely delivery of high-quality assets and simulations across multiple sequences. Communicate clearly with Production about progress, issues, dependencies, and any risks to delivery. Adapt to evolving creative notes and balance iteration speed with long-term technical stability. Prepare organized scenes, readable networks, and clean handoffs for downstream departments. Facilitate efficient troubleshooting and maintain a calm, solution-oriented approach during production peaks.

What You'll Bring



Experience



Previous experience as a Senior Crowd Artist or Crowd Lead in feature animation, TV, VFX, or real-time productions. Extensive experience with Houdini Crowd, and familiarity with tools such as Golaem, Massive, or proprietary systems. Experience leading small teams and providing feedback, task scoping, and technical direction.

Skills & Communication



Strong understanding of animation principles, crowd behavior, motion editing, and scene choreography. Advanced proficiency in node-based procedural workflows. Solid understanding of simulation, caching, optimization, and shot performance tuning. Experience with rendering workflows and troubleshooting render-related crowd issues. Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to mentor, guide, and collaborate effectively across departments. Experience with Maya, ShotGrid, and pipeline collaboration tools is a plus. Scripting abilities (Python, VEX) are a strong asset for automating workflows and building tools.

Portfolio Requirements




A portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates:

Crowd simulations featuring large-scale or complex agent interactions. Use of Houdini with shot breakdowns included. Clear examples of behavior logic, motion variation, clipping/cycle usage, and agent diversity. Shots showing integration with environments, lighting, layout, and FX. Problem-solving examples, technical notes, or tool-building contributions. Any team-lead responsibilities (if applicable): direction, review notes, pipeline improvements.
