Job Overview:

Casa Mia Montessori, a boutique childcare center in SE Calgary, is seeking a

Chef / Cook

to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, home-style meals and snacks for children ages 2.5-5 years in a Montessori environment. This is a

part-time

position, with hours from

8:00 AM to 1:00 PM

, Monday to Friday.

You will play a key role in supporting the well-being of our children by providing wholesome meals that adhere to dietary guidelines and accommodating special dietary needs. Duties & Responsibilities:

Meal Preparation:

Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals and snacks according to the center's approved menu.

Food Safety:

Ensure meals are prepared following Alberta Health Services food safety and sanitation guidelines.

Cleanliness:

Maintain a clean, organized kitchen, following proper food storage and sanitation protocols.

Dietary Accommodations:

Adjust meals to accommodate children's allergies, dietary restrictions, and preferences.

Grocery Management:

Order and track food supplies, maintaining a budget and inventory.

Record Keeping:

Keep accurate records of daily meals, including temperatures, menus, and food handling logs for licensing compliance.

Collaboration:

Work closely with the Director to update seasonal menus and improve meal offerings.

Support During Lunch:

Assist during meal transitions, supporting educators and children during lunch as needed.

Experience & Qualifications:

Experience:

Previous experience in a childcare, school, or commercial kitchen environment is preferred.

Certifications:

Food Handler's Certificate

(required)

Level 1 Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certification

is recommended

Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

(required)

Skills:

Strong knowledge of child nutrition and allergies

Excellent organizational and time-management skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Positive, respectful communication with children and staff

Compensation:

Wage:

$20+/hour

for the base wage, plus an

Alberta wage top-up

for Level 1 certification (additional $2,64 per hour). Paid vacation and holidays.
