Job Description

The CFO, Bermuda Reinsurance acts as both a Strategic Business Partner and Chief Financial officer on all finance matters to the CEO, Bermuda Reinsurance. This role has a focus on Regulatory Reporting and legal entity financial management.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Partner with the CEO, Reinsurance to understand their businesses from an integrated financial perspective, provide insight into potential improvements, and give your perspective on the feasibility of various strategic initiatives.
  • Help to look at the business through an analytical lens and drive the increased analytical culture and mindset within the business and finance. Challenge and coach the business on the financial impact of their decisions. Work alongside the controllership function, to enable accuracy, consistency and efficiency in our planning and reporting processes, and "one set of numbers" in relation to the Reinsurance business.
  • Responsible for all regulatory reporting of the main Reinsurance legal entities domiciled in Bermuda, including Quarterly and Annual submissions.
  • Repsonsible for the preperation of the Annual IFRS AXA XL Re Ltd consolidated Financial Statements
  • Working alongside the Reinsurance Head of Capital Management and Regulatory Reporting - in understanding the capital requirements of the Bermuda legal entities and how these impact and affect the overall requirements of the Reinsurance Business unit.
  • Responsible for forecasting the Business unit's financial standing based on financial and operational data and reports and advising the CEO and respective boards on strategic direction.
  • Actively monitor expense drivers and work with the business to ensure most efficient cost structure.
  • To encourage and foster strong working relationships with FinOps, ERM, Capital Management, Treasury, Compliance, Investment Accounting, Internal Audit and Tax, and feed into their processes where appropriate.
  • To actively participate in Board of Director roles for appropriate entities.
  • Review and at times, be involved in the production of internal Board and Management MI related to the legal entities alongside all external reporting requirements.
  • Manage and lead the Reinsurance Bermuda regulatory team
  • Other ad hoc duties and projects as required
Working relationships:
  • Will interact with AXA XL Divisional Finance, Legal, Tax, Compliance, Actuarial, ERM and Treasury Teams on various matters, as AXA XL Re Ltd is the top regulated reinsurance entity and owner of significant subsidiaries within the Reinsurance Business Unit.
  • External interactions will include external auditors and local regulator
Position Reports to: CEO Bermuda Reinsurance.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
  • Qualified accountant (CA, CPA, ACA or equivalent) with at least ten years post-qualification experience in the excess property and casualty insurance and reinsurance industry
  • Must have a strong knowledge and experience with US GAAP and/or IFRS accounting and reporting
  • Extensive working knowledge of current statutory requirements and experience with Bermuda Statutory reporting requirements for a Class 4 Company
  • Working knowledge and experience with Oracle, Hyperion and PeopleSoft Financials
  • Must possess strong analytical and report writing skills as well as solid organizational and communication skills
