About this opportunity

Our client is a Bermuda domiciled life and annuity reinsurance company. The company is looking to expand its financial reporting team by adding a life reinsurance accountant. This position will be responsible for oversight of the day to day financial reporting of the business. The position will be exposed to all facets of the business because of the small but growing office environment.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Monthly analysis and compilation of information from cedents\' settlement reports
  • Compiling and analyzing financial information, including the preparation of US GAAP & management accounts, for presentation to management and parent
  • Liaising with other group companies to ensure compliance with and reporting on inter-company agreements and transactions
  • Preparation of Bermuda statutory filing and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements
  • Assisting with the preparation of financial reporting information, including budgets and forecasts, for presentation to the board
  • Weekly preparation of cash summary, forecast and variance analysis for cash management purposes and presentation to management
  • Management of accounts payable and payment of expenses
  • Preparation, development and documentation of internal controls across the key business segments, including ensuring compliance with documented controls
  • Being the key person for dealing with internal and external auditors and their requests
  • Liaising with tax experts regarding US tax calculations and provisions
  • Other ad hoc projects and tasks as required
What you\'ll need
  • Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA)
  • 3+ years of post-qualification professional experience and at least 3 years spent in life and annuity (re)insurance
  • Understanding of both asset and liability accounting in life and annuity (re)insurance would be preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP as well as an understanding of Bermuda statutory filing requirements
  • Experience in the accounting of modified coinsurance and funds withheld reinsurance structures on a fair value basis under US GAAP would be preferred
  • Self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven attention to detail with ability to check work product reasonableness before distribution
  • Interpersonal skills suited to a small office environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a structured team environment
  • The successful candidate to have the willingness and flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays, from multiple locations
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications including Excel
  • Experience in the use of accounting software SAP preferred
