We are seeking a certified and experienced

Oil Burner Mechanic (OBM)

to join our team in

Iqaluit, Nunavut

. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing residential and commercial oil-fired heating systems. The position also assists with plumbing activities, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of water supply lines, waste disposal systems, and fixtures. The role requires adaptability, resourcefulness, and the ability to work effectively in cold weather conditions and remote locations.

Oil Burner Mechanic:



Install and commission oil-fired heating systems (furnaces, boilers, water heaters). Connect fuel supply lines, tanks, pumps, and controls according to code. Ensure proper venting, exhaust, and air supply systems are in place. Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and tune-ups of oil burners. Test combustion efficiency and adjust burners for safe, optimal operation. Replace filters, nozzles, and worn components. Diagnose equipment malfunctions (ignition issues, leaks, airflow, fuel delivery). Repair or replace defective parts such as motors, pumps, thermostats, or controls. Respond to emergency service calls for heating failures.

Plumbing:



Install, repair, and maintain water supply lines, waste disposal systems, fixtures, and appliances. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with water pressure, leaks, blockages, or other plumbing malfunctions. Conduct system inspections and perform preventive maintenance.

Safety & Compliance



Work in compliance with local building codes, fuel safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications. Conduct leak checks, pressure tests, and combustion safety testing. Maintain records of service, inspections, and repairs.

Qualifications:



Certified Oil Burner Mechanic

(OBM - Class B minimum; Class A preferred). Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar position Experience working in northern climates or remote communities is a strong asset. Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and building codes. Must be able to communicate in English.

Skills & Competencies:



Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Ability to work independently and under limited supervision. Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces or outdoor winter conditions. Comfortable using diagnostic tools and digital service systems.

Working Conditions:



This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, sometime in extreme weather conditions. Travel to remote sites or buildings may be required. Availability for emergency on-call repairs outside normal working hours.

Pay: $45.00-$60.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 70 per week
