The Library Technician assists students and teachers, manages resources, and maintains an organized environment. This position requires a blend of technical skills, people skills, and a passion for literature and information management. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children ages 5-13, be detail-oriented and possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with students and staff.
Duties
Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing library resources, including books, databases, and digital materials.
Manage the circulation desk, including checking in and out materials, processing returns, and handling fines.
Prepare and lead literacy activities with classrooms
Maintain accurate filing systems for both physical and digital resources to ensure easy access to information.
Conduct data entry tasks to update library records and maintain databases efficiently.
Support research efforts by providing guidance on available resources and assisting with data collection.
Organize events, programs, and workshops that promote literacy and community engagement including the book fair (twice a school year)
Perform routine maintenance of library materials, including purchasing and cataloging new acquisitions and repairing damaged items.
Utilize computer skills to manage library software systems and assist patrons with technology-related inquiries.
Qualifications
A university degree or college diploma in Library Technology OR significant experience and skills related to the position.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Excellent customer service skills to provide a welcoming environment for all library users.
Proficient typing skills for accurate data entry and record management.
Solid communication skills for effective interaction with students and staff.
Experience or familiarity with databases for information retrieval is preferred.
Basic research skills to assist patrons in finding relevant information efficiently.
Writing skills are beneficial for creating instructional materials or promotional content related to library services. This position is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about libraries, enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and have a desire to help others access information effectively.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.01-$28.08 per hour
Expected hours: 30 - 35 per week
