We are seeking a
Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)
to join our growing team of professionals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply technical expertise in the planning, inspection, and execution of large-scale infrastructure projects, while ensuring work is completed to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
As a key member of the project team, the CET will be responsible for a broad range of technical and field-based duties to support daily construction operations and ensure compliance with engineering and safety requirements.
Field and Technical Oversight
Perform
daily site inspections
to verify that all work meets approved drawings, specifications, and municipal standards.
Conduct
surveying and layout activities
, including grade checks, line staking, and elevation verification using total station or GPS equipment.
Monitor
construction progress
, ensuring that earthworks, underground, and road-building operations adhere to design tolerances and quality requirements.
Identify and document any field discrepancies or design conflicts and communicate solutions to engineers or project managers.
Oversee
materials testing and quality control
, including soil compaction, asphalt density, and concrete sampling, ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain comprehensive
daily construction reports
, including details on labour, equipment, weather, production quantities, and site activities.
Update and manage
as-built drawings
, inspection logs, and test reports to support project documentation and closeout requirements.
Assist in preparing and tracking
RFIs (Requests for Information)
,
change notices
, and
progress claims
, ensuring accurate and timely communication between field and office teams.
Record and quantify
materials, volumes, and progress
for payment verification and cost control.
Compile and submit detailed
project reports
summarizing progress, testing results, and any issues requiring management review.
Coordination and Communication
Liaise daily with
site superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and municipal inspectors
to coordinate work activities and resolve issues.
Support the
Project Manager
with scheduling, material tracking, and construction sequencing.
Ensure all parties are informed of design updates, scope changes, or construction constraints that may impact the project schedule or budget.
Participate in
safety meetings
and contribute to maintaining a strong
safety culture
on-site in accordance with TACC's ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management System.
Project Support
Assist with
project startup
by reviewing drawings, verifying control points, and preparing layout plans.
Support
project closeout
by compiling documentation packages, test results, and as-built data for client submission.
Provide
technical input and recommendations
during design review and pre-construction planning phases.
Qualifications
Certified Engineering Technologist (
CET
) designation in good standing with
OACETT
, or eligible for certification.
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
Minimum
3+ years of civil construction experience
(preferably in roadwork, sewer/watermain, or site development).
Strong understanding of
engineering principles
,
construction practices
, and
municipal standards
.
Proficiency in
AutoCAD
,
Civil 3D
, and
Microsoft Office Suite
(Excel, Word, Outlook).
Experience using
surveying instruments
(total station, GPS) is a strong asset.
Excellent
organizational, analytical, and communication skills
with a proactive and detail-oriented mindset.
Valid
driver's license
and reliable vehicle for travel to project sites across the GTA.
