Job Description

Are you a skilled Civil Engineering Technologist with a passion for shaping how a city grows? The City of Edmonton's Development Services Branch is looking for a temporary Engineering Technologist II to join our Planning Coordination team.
Working under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, you will apply your technical knowledge to evaluate complex land development proposals and engineering designs. You will be instrumental in ensuring that all new infrastructure aligns with the City's high standards for quality and sustainability, contributing directly to the thoughtful and orderly development of Edmonton.
In this role, you will be a key part of ensuring new developments in Edmonton are serviced by safe, sustainable, and effective stormwater and sanitary infrastructure. If you are a collaborative problem-solver with strong technical expertise in municipal land development, we encourage you to apply!
What will you do?

  • Review consultant engineering proposals, designs, and applications for conformance with City of Edmonton and EPCOR standards, guidelines, bylaws, and provincial regulations.
  • Formulate technical recommendations for the approval of statutory plan amendments, rezonings, road closures, and subdivision applications.
  • Collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of experts, including planners, ecologists, transportation engineers, and legal advisors.
  • Contribute your sanitary and stormwater expertise to the development and implementation of internal City standards, policies, and initiatives.
  • Respond to technical inquiries from landowners, prospective developers, engineering consultants, and internal collaborators to facilitate safe and orderly development.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institute of Technology
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in sanitary, stormwater, or lot grading design within the municipal land development field
  • Eligibility for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) or an equivalent association
Assets:
  • Proficient knowledge of the City of Edmonton and EPCOR Design and Construction Standards
  • Experience working directly with private land developers and engineering consultants
Skills required for success:
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles related to hydraulics, hydrology, and sanitary and stormwater servicing standards and best practices
  • In-depth understanding of municipal land development processes, including lot grading, stormwater management, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical information clearly
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team of multi-disciplinary experts to find innovative solutions
  • Proficiency with computer software, including Google Suite

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week.
Salary Range: $46.177 - $58.222 (Hourly); $81,352 - $102,572 (Annually)
