Position Title: Centre Manager
Location: Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre (390 Columbia St E, Vanderhoof, BC) and Integris Community Centre (186 Columbia St W, Vanderhoof, BC)
Terms: Temporary Full Time (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Shift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays
Shifts will vary based on the needs of the centre
Start Date: As soon as possible
End Date: April 2026
Salary: $64,000 - $74,000 per year plus full benefits package
Reports To: Director of Health, Fitness and Aquatics
Nature & Scope:
The YMCA serves the District of Vanderhoof's healthy living needs at the Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre and Integris Community Centre. The Centre Manager provides leadership to the teams at both the Aquatic Centre and Integris Community Centre. As well, they provide leadership to the Aquatics and Recreation teams in Taylor during May-August. The focus of the role is to support the team in providing a "5-star experience" to all participants, ensure communication with the team, and develop and deliver YMCA programs and services that contribute to achieve the department's goals and objectives. The Centre Manager works alongside the Facilities Manager, to provide leadership to ensure that the facilities operate in safe, effective manner. The successful candidate is a respected leader with significant knowledge and experience in program, recreation, and/or aquatics operations. This individual is values-driven and believes passionately in the vital role that the YMCA plays in community.
Major Responsibilities:
• Ensure operational excellence
• Maintain high service standards that are reflected in the achievement of annual membership growth, retention targets, and satisfaction ratings. Achieve all quality standards and targets established under YMCA best practices and the YMCA's Member Experience program
• Manage and achieve performance targets established in the centre's operating plans and budgets
• Provide direct leadership to departmental supervisors
• Lead front line staff and volunteers through influence and role modelling
• Ensure staff have the skills and knowledge required to perform roles in line with expectations of their functions.
• Support direct reports in the performance management of staff and volunteer teams
• Support direct reports on efficient staff scheduling consistent with annual operating plans and budget
• Operate as a strong team player sharing leadership and accountability under a province-wide integrated management and program delivery model
• Develop and maintain positive relationships and increase involvement of members, patrons and community partners
• Develop and implement plans to serve and engage the community through discussion, participation and involvement in community groups, committees and partnerships related to the needs of the community
• Extend the impact of the YMCA through committed leadership through working groups
• Lead and role model the YMCA's commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism
• Establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, and members
• Model behaviour in line with the YMCA Mission, Vision and Values
Requirements:
• 3+ years of leadership experience in management roles, involving responsibility for planning, operations and financial management
• Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as business administration or recreation management
• Leadership experience in Aquatics, Recreation or Community Programming is preferred
• Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with diverse membership staff, volunteers, community stakeholders and partners
• Access to a vehicle or able to travel within Northern BC
• Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrated achievement of administrative tasks, such as checklists, staff scheduling, invoicing, summary reports, maintaining calendars
• Experience using Microsoft programs such as Word, Teams, Excel and Outlook; and CRM software
• Demonstrated experience and sensitivity in dealing with members and customers of different cultures and backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
• Proven leadership of dedicated, high-performance teams
• Post-secondary academic credentials and an ongoing commitment to professional development
• Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference
• Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
