Catering Services Support Worker
Reports to: Executive Chef and General Manager of Chef Ric's
Job Level: Non-Management
Salary: $43,900 per year

Position Purpose
Catering is a critical function of The Ottawa Mission's Food Services. The Ottawa Mission uses Catering to broaden the spectrum of service exposures for our Food Services Training Program (FSTP) students.
Reporting to the Manager of Chef Ric's (the Manager), the Catering Services Support Worker (the Assistant) will assist the Catering Services Coordinator with Catering events, including inputting orders and executing the event when necessary. They will assist, as necessary, with training the Food Services Training Program (FSTP) Students to work at OM Catering events both internally and throughout the City of Ottawa in diverse environments.
The Assistant will assist in executing catering events, with a hands on approach, including luncheons, weddings, passed hors d'oeuvres, etc.
Major Responsibilities
Interact with clients and guests in a friendly, professional manner while upholding the organization's service standards.
Help to foster a positive and memorable experience for customers by providing excellent communication and a well-planned event
Respond to incoming catering requests via phone, email, or online platforms, in a timely and professional manner
Communicate with clients to discuss event needs, budgets, and service options
Create catering quotes and invoices for potential clients alongside the Coordinator, accurately inputting data into catering software (i.e. CaterEase)
Update and manage menu information in the catering software and other shared databases
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and support staff regarding last-minute changes, special requests, or client feedback
Generate daily and weekly catering summaries, preparing quotes for kitchen and driving teams
Assist in contract catering
Maintain relationships with site coordinators
Ensure timely preparation and submission of all monthly contract catering invoices by the end of each month
Assist in assessing catering requirements and ensuring customers are satisfied with the service delivered
Help organize all necessary resources needed for each individual catering in a timely manner (equipment, specialty food, special requests, rentals, servers needed, cooks needed, vehicle for transport, food labels, table signage, etc.)
Attending events for coordination & execution of detailed plans
Site visits to determine logistics, etc. for upcoming caterings
Support wedding and special event setups, including decor coordination, table arrangements, and ensuring a smooth guest service flow.
Assist with the setup and teardown of catering events, ensuring all food, equipment, and service areas are properly organized, maintained, and cleared promptly after service
Prepare equipment pick-up lists daily and follow-up with Lead Driver to ensure pick up of equipment
Perform any other job-related duties as assigned
Other Requirements
Education
College Diploma in Hospitality Management, Culinary Management or a related field
Food Handlers Training Certificate required
Experience
Minimum 1 years' experience in the culinary field
1 to 3 years' experience catering events from 10 to 800+ persons
Experience in training workers
Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to quickly learn in-house software
Excellent oral and written communication skills along with the ability to build relationships
Strong skills in critical thinking, decision making, analysis, problem solving, planning and time management
Strong mentorship and training skills
Ability to work collaboratively
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of all catering events, including weekend, evening, holidays availability
Must have a valid G Driver's License with a clean abstract
Bilingualism (English & French) an asset
Working Conditions
Must work to, sometimes strident, deadlines, manage and respond to competing priorities
Ability to work flexible hours and schedules, weekends and holidays may be required, as well as mornings and evenings
High degree of physical activity involving various activities: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, etc.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
