The opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Gas Turbines, the Category Specialist will support new gas turbine and/or Electric Motor Drive (EMD) equipment procurement as well as turbomachinery related maintenance services across all business units with an enterprise-wide spend of $500 million per year.
The Category Specialist – Gas Turbines will support value generating initiatives, participate in supplier performance evaluations and reviews, analyze, and validate market intelligence, generate demand and capacity reporting, develop, negotiate, and execute contracts, and run scenario analyses. In addition, the incumbent will be required to manage problems that are unique, which require critical, independent thinking.
This role will work collaboratively and effectively with Project teams, Business Units, Fleet Teams, Supplier teams, and Technical teams to understand needs and requirements, competitively source turbomachinery and repair and overhaul services, support orders for on-time delivery, and help manage supplier relationships, performance, and challenges to support the successful planning and execution of new, expansion, and replacement pipeline projects and programs across Canada, US, and Mexico.
What you’ll do

  • Support contract quality and active management of contracts throughout the contract lifecycle (contract development, negotiation, management, administration, and records) within area of responsibility, and the execution of contracts throughout the life of projects
  • Actively manage supplier performance and grow supplier relationships to drive year over year improvement and capture new value
  • Develop and maintain healthy, productive relationships with project and business unit customers, other Supply Chain teams, and cross-functional stakeholders and peers, working effectively and collaboratively to influence across teams and reach mutually agreeable and creative solutions that maximize value for the organization
  • Understand project and business needs and requirements in terms of demand planning and support from Supply Chain
  • Secondary source turbomachinery repair and overhaul services for Canada, US, and Mexico
  • Support the category strategy, progressing category maturity over time, and develop project and order specific sourcing strategies
  • Perform market intelligence research and analysis and vendor spend capacity analysis
  • Support new turbomachinery unit standardization initiatives
  • Develop, issue, and manage Expression/Solicitation of Interest (EOI/SOI) as well as RFx documents
  • Support administration of contracts in the Contract Management System
  • Interpret contract clauses and support issuance of contract documents/letters and claim documents

Minimum Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary degree in a related field
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Strong commercial acumen with proven abilities to develop and implement data-informed strategies and recommendations
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to drive consensus between stakeholders
  • Strong critical analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledgeable in facets of supply chain management, category management, procurement, contract formation, RFP processes, and administration
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy, strong organization, time management and planning skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of the global turbomachinery and repair and overhaul market, supply base, cost drivers, production processes, specifications and codes, supply contracts, opportunities, and challenges
  • Experience in turbomachinery (EMDs, gas turbines, compression) and repair and overhaul
  • Competency in SCM systems and tools, and SAP
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly in Midstream
  • Supplier and category management experience
  • Designation or enrollment in a Supply Chain Management program such as ISM, SCMP, CSCMP, or IACCM would be considered an asset
  • Aptitude for technical topics related to rotating equipment, i.e., when sourcing a technical service (such as repair and overhaul, etc.), candidate is naturally interested in learning technical details of the service, experience with terms and conditions.
