The Royal Canadian Mint is hiring a Senior Category Specialist, who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Partner Procurement, the Senior Category Specialist is responsible for supporting clients in the development of sourcing strategies, providing recommendations, executing complex procurement processes i.e. negotiable RFPs for high value procurements, with a focus on client outcomes and achieving the best value for the Mint. The Senior Category Specialist works closely and develops relationships with all internal stakeholders in the delivery of services and the meeting of collective expectations.
Summary of Duties:
  • Working collaboratively with clients and procurement leadership, you will lead and provide input into the development and implementation of procurement strategies using internal customer and market driven insights.
  • You will facilitate various supplier assessments, such as financial, risk and vendor capabilities, negotiate financial instruments (advance payment guarantees, letters of credit, etc.) with vendors, while supporting the mitigation of organizational risk throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Working within policy, directive and trade agreement requirements, you ensure the efficiency and transparency of the procurement process is maintained while attaining the best value for the organization.
  • You will facilitate engagements to resolve supplier performance challenges to ensure alignment with contractual arrangements and obligations.
  • You possess the drive to continuously learn and want to improve the procurement process, executing continuous improvement initiatives within the team and the broader organization

Requirements


Language Requirements: English is essential. Bilingualism (French & English) is an asset.
Education and Experience
  • University degree in business administration, commerce, finance, economics or engineering and / or Certification in Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP), or other recognized (public) procurement certificate and/or designation
  • At least five (5) years of experience leading large dollar complex procurements with responsibility for the entire RFx process from planning through to post-award contract management
  • Developing and leading RFx evaluation designs and process through to contract negotiations
  • Public procurement or category management/supply chain knowledge essential
  • A practical understanding of contract law is essential
  • Knowledge of application of trade agreements to government procurement strongly desired
  • Experience in project management is considered an asset

Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated success helping stakeholders develop statements of work, scoping documents in support of their business requirements
  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize sequencing of multiple projects concurrently
  • You have demonstrated success in developing vendor negotiation strategies which lead to mutually beneficial contractual relationships
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities in areas supporting assigned procurement categories
  • You are a team player who supports the team and is willing to dedicate the time and effort necessary when called upon
  • You have excellent collaborative and relationship building skills with the ability to communicate Strategic Procurement\xe2\x80\x99s value to the organization
  • You can leverage your category management skills and knowledge to maximize value to the organization
  • Demonstrated success in communicating procurement process outcomes through comprehensive executive summaries to senior leadership

Knowledge
  • Extensive public procurement knowledge.
  • Strong working knowledge of legislative requirements and trade agreements relating to the Procurement field.
  • Significant knowledge and understanding in the facets of the development of statements of work, scoping documents in support of business requirements.
  • Strong experience with MS office suite.
  • Solid working knowledge of ERP systems and other e-Procurement software (the latter considered an asset).
