Under the direction of the Operations Manager and reporting to the Shift Supervisors, the Part Time Bus Operator plays an important role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and customer-focused delivery of transit services within the community. Working on an on-call bases, the Pat Time Bus Operator is responsible for driving transit buses on assigned routes, following schedules, and providing courteous assistance to passengers of all ages and abilities. The position includes performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate records, selling fare media, reporting safety or mechanical concerns, and adhering to all traffic laws and organizational policies. As a front-line representative of the organization, the operator contributes to a positive rider experience by demonstrating professionalism, patience, and strong communication skills while navigating diverse traffic and weather conditions. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety and Compliance
Operates transit buses in a safe and responsible manner, following all traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies.
Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, promptly reporting any safety or mechanical concerns.
Responds appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or incidents in accordance with established procedures to ensure the safety of passengers and the vehicle.
Customer Service
Provides courteous and professional service to passengers, including assisting with questions, directions, mobility needs, as well as selling tickets and passes.
Maintains a respectful and inclusive environment for all riders, promoting a positive passenger experience.
Represents the organization in a professional and approachable manner within the community.
Vehicle Care and Maintenance
Ensures that the bus interior is clean, safe, and comfortable for passengers.
Reports maintenance, repair, or cleaning needs in a timely manner to the appropriate supervisor.
Administration and Communication
Maintains accurate records such as daily logs, fare counts, and incident reports in accordance with company procedures.
Communicates effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and other team members to support smooth operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned to contribute to the effective delivery of transit services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent;
Valid Nova Scotia Class 2 drivers license with air brake endorsement or equivalent;
Clean driver's abstract and satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check;
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills;
Ability to follow schedules, instructions, and safety procedures;
Physically able to operate a bus and assist passengers as required;
Previous experience in professional driving, particularly in transit or passenger service is considered an asset.
First Aid and CPR/AED certificate - or be able to achieve within 6-months of hire;

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working Conditions
