SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (or the Licensed Practical Nurse in the absence of the R.N.) administers direct care to an individual or group of residents. Functions under the Mission Statement, Philosophy, objectives and policies of Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to speak, read and write English is required \xe2\x80\x93 Grade 12 level preferred.
  • Health Care Aide Certificate from accredited institution.
  • A neat appearance and a sincere interest in people, the elderly in particular, and a sensitivity to their needs.
  • Good physical health, emotional stability, and a mature outlook.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Is a team player.
  • Ability to accept guidance and take direction.

DUTIES: Assists residents with all activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, transferring, toileting and feeding as assigned by LPN/RN.
  • Assists nurse with treatments by positioning, holding, or supporting the residents.
  • Provides routine nail care to feet and hands.
  • Provides routine oral hygiene including care to dentures.
  • Weighs residents as required.
  • Collects specimens for the lab as required.
  • Answers call lights as required in a timely fashion.
  • Enhances the quality of life of residents by facilitating their attendance at activities, church services, and other activities as required.
  • Adheres to the WRHA/Meadowood Manor respectful workplace policy.
  • Adheres to the Meadowood Manor dress code.
  • Records intake and output of fluids as required.
  • Takes soiled laundry to designated areas.
  • Makes beds and carbolizes according to schedule.
  • Puts clean personal laundry in residents\' rooms.
  • Assists residents in keeping drawers and closets clean and tidy.
  • Assists in the admission of new residents as required.
  • Distributes snacks and beverages to residents.
  • Works as a team member, communicating with co-workers and helping them as required.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Maintains confidentiality in relation to matters involving residents and/or the facility.
  • Participates in in-service education and staff development programs.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff.
  • Attends HCA general staff meetings.
  • Participates in resident care conferences.
  • Reports any change in Residents condition or any unusual occurrences promptly. Attends mandatory inservices, seminars, courses, etc. as required and determined by management including but not limited to:
  • Orientation
  • WHMIS
  • Workplace Safety and Health
  • PHIA
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Department-specific Inservices etc.
  • Inservices etc. mandated by WRHA or legislation/regulation.
Arrives on time and stays for their complete shift. Notifies the nurse if any resident is in need of attention.
Maintains personal health to promote regular attendance at work.
Performs other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
