Carpenter (General Repair Technician GRT)

Carpenters (GRT) at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state GRTs use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a GRT.

The multi-talented GRT is skilled in the following ways:

General in-home repair and restoration work Rough and trim and finishing skills Repairs to wooden structures (interior/exterior) Door, trim, molding, crown moulding and baseboard installation Cabinetry (removal, repair, reinstallation) Flooring installation and repairs Hardware installation Framing (rough and finish) Drywall installation, mudding, sanding, and finishing Brush and roller painting (walls, ceilings, trim) Ceiling installation, knockdown, and texturing Insulation and vapour barrier installation Fence repairs

Additional abilities required include:

Experienced with interior and exterior home repairs Restoration/rebuild focus (flood/fire damage) Tools and the skills to use them Strong people and communication skills Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do, never leaving a job unfinished or unsatisfactory A safety mindset Valid drivers license Ability to pass a criminal record check Ability to communicate in English both written and spoken Computer literate

Other stuff that'll help you be successful but isn't mandatory:

Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker) IICRC certification (restoration focus) WHMIS First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Can you describe a situation where you chose to stay longer to complete a task thoroughly, rather than postponing it to the next day? This position requires a multi skilled tradesperson who can go into a home/business that had flood/fire damage and be able to fix all damaged areas: assessing what needs to be done: remedying damage using carpentry and problem solving skills.

This position is mostly dealing with in-home repairs/restoration vs new builds.
Tell us about your in-home repair skills.

Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime is paid. This position can be physically demanding and requires a person to bend, crouch, reach, kneel, etc. Will this activity be a problem? Do you consider yourself to be a leader, organized and self motivated? This position requires a high degree of making logical decisions, training helpers, dealing with home-owners, schedules and job duties, and above all attitude is #1.
Describe how you could be an asset to On Side Restoration:

Do you have a JM or Red Seal Carpentry ticket or any formal training in Carpentry. Please describe. Please list any additional skills you may have that are not present on your resume (example: cabinetry, siding, flooring, ceilings, etc). Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Are you comfortable operating a phone/tablet to navigate through applications and record info as instructed?
Experience:

drywalling/ drywall repairs/ patching: 1 year (preferred) interior home renovation/repair: 1 year (preferred) finish carpentry: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:

Canadian Driver's License (required)
