The Career Readiness Coordinator strengthens Experiential Learning (EL) and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities for UNBC students through strategic partnerships with employers, industry, faculty, and internal units. The role enhances student employability, guides the development of professional skills, and expands access to meaningful work experiences that support academic and career goals.


The Coordinator leads institution-wide career readiness initiatives, supervises Career Centre staff and student staff, and supports Co-op programming. The position drives innovation in employer engagement, career education, and digital infrastructure within a highly unstructured environment. This includes building new systems, developing scalable programming, advancing WIL best practices, and ensuring alignment with UNBC's strategic priorities.


The role reports to the Manager, Student Experience & Planning and plays a key leadership role in the Student Success portfolio.


Responsibilities




Career Readiness Programming and Employer Partnerships


Develop and implement career readiness programs that connect students with employers, alumni, faculty, and industry partners.

Build strong recruitment partnerships and expand WIL, Co-op, and work-op opportunities.

Conduct market and labour trend analysis to guide programming and identify skill gaps.

Collaborate with faculty and departments to integrate career education into the student experience.

Advise employers on recruitment strategies and workplace readiness practices that support student success.

Develop and oversee employer sponsorship opportunities that strengthen Career Centre programming.

Promote inclusive practices that increase equitable access to career and WIL opportunities.

Event Coordination and Industry Engagement


Lead the planning and execution of UNBC's signature career events, including NorthWorks Career Fair and industry networking sessions.

Build and maintain partnerships to expand sector-specific fairs, employer panels, and recruitment events.

Oversee logistics such as venue coordination, registration systems, signage, digital event tools, and volunteer support.

Develop targeted marketing for student engagement, using CRM communications, LinkedIn, email campaigns, and social media.

Implement assessment tools to evaluate event impact, employer satisfaction, and student outcomes.

Maintain detailed records of event participation to inform strategic planning.

Data, Reporting, and Digital Infrastructure


Maintain and optimize Career Centre platforms used for job postings, Co-op placements, event management, and employer relationship tracking.

Train faculty, students, and employers on using digital tools for recruitment and career development activities.

Track employer engagement, WIL participation, and student service usage to assess program effectiveness.

Analyze labour market trends and student needs to guide decision-making.

Produce reports for internal and external stakeholders, including strategic planning and Ministry related reporting requirements.

Career Ambassador Program Leadership


Develop and oversee a structured peer-support model to expand resume, cover letter, and career readiness support.

Recruit, hire, and train student staff to deliver high-quality career services.

Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to student staff.

Monitor service delivery quality, track student learning outcomes, and update program materials.

Integrate Career Ambassadors into employer events, workshops, and Career Centre outreach.

Unit Coordination and Staff Supervision


Provide day-to-day supervision to Career Centre staff, including the Co-op Coordinator and student staff.

Support staff scheduling, service delivery, onboarding, and professional development.

Assist with operational and sponsorship budget tracking to ensure strategic alignment and financial stewardship.

Lead annual planning and participate in unit-wide priority setting and evaluation processes.

Foster a collaborative, innovative, and student-centered work environment that supports

continuous improvement.


Required Education and Experience




The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree, together with a minimum of three years of directly related experience that includes the following:


Liaising with a diverse range of external partners, employers, faculty, and community organizations

Developing and delivering career readiness or WIL programming

Leading or supporting Co-op, work-op, or experiential learning initiatives

Supervising staff or student employees, including training, coaching, and performance direction

Planning and executing large-scale events such as career fairs, employer panels, and recruitment sessions

Building and maintaining employer relationships to expand WIL and student employment opportunities

Conducting labour market research and applying findings to program development

Managing projects with competing timelines in a dynamic and unstructured environment

Tracking budgets, sponsorship revenue, and program expenditures

Understanding the post-secondary environment, academic processes, and student life cycle

Applying principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency in student and employer engagement

Providing career education or student support related to resumes, applications, workplace readiness, or interview preparation

Strong written and verbal communication, including presentations and cross-departmental collaboration

Demonstrated ability to develop new initiatives and adapt services based on student needs and labour market trends

CEWIL WIL Practitioner certification or willingness to obtain within 12 months.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




The successful candidate will possess the following:


Excellent cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills, including presentation, team building, conflict resolution, and creative and collaborative problem-solving skills

Ability to manage digital systems and workflows that support job boards, WIL programs, and employer engagement.

Working knowledge of how to create and assess reports and data

Working knowledge of the BC Freedom of information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)

Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Current clear Criminal Record Check and valid drivers' license

Knowledge of provincial and federal employment and labour policies is an asset

Background in educational program development, marketing, communications, or public relations is an asset.

Salary




This position has been classified at a Grade 12. The annual salary range for this position is $81,590.60 to $84,957.60, and the normal starting salary will be $81,590.60.

Normal hours of work will be 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work is required periodically, particularly in peak times. This role is an on-campus position, located at the Prince George campus.
