Position Overview

The Centre for Career & Personal Development within Student and Enrollment Services is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Career Pathway Advisor for approximately 12 months.

Reporting to the Manager, Business Operations, in the Centre for Career & Personal Development, the Career Pathway Advisor will support career pathways for students, with a particular focus on students in the International Professional Program. This role will involve outreach to students and employer partners to enhance pathways to employment. The Career Pathway Advisor will be the lead career advising contact for students engaged in the International Professional Program. The advisor will work in collaboration with Continuing Education to develop clear processes and practices to enhance the student experience through both career advising and work experience opportunities (employment and/or placements).

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Identify, develop, and cultivate strategic employer relationships in the business community.
  • Maintain regular communication with employer partners to understand recruitment needs.
  • Facilitate or lead career development workshops for IPP students.
  • Provide individual career development coaching and guidance to students.
  • Establish effective communication practices using Elevate (Orbis) and other available tools to communicate placement opportunities and related information to students.
  • Create opportunities for students to interact with employers and advisors to benefit their career development.
  • Working within available Elevate (Orbis) modules, create an application tracking process that addresses program requirements.
  • Create a process for screening employer placements to ensure they adhere to the program guidelines, and allow for employers to host single or multiple student placements.
  • Maintain an issues log and works collaboratively with key team members from Continuing Education to review, assess, identify and make recommendations for improvement in processes and systems as the program progresses.
  • Assist in developing and administering a process for assigning students to International Professional Program placements and employment opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot any system related issues within Orbis or D2L and liaise with appropriate staff to resolve issues.
  • Generate monthly progress reports for internal progress assessment and reporting.
  • Conduct regular evaluations, of both students and employers, using Qualtrics to ensure the program is meeting its overall objectives.
  • Respond to student and/or employer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with industry partners to establish adequate numbers of relevant placements opportunities for International Professional Program students.
  • Organize and produce statistical reports on co-op practicum enrolments and placements.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor\'s degree and 2-3 years of experience in administration, project management.
  • A minimum of two years experience with career development or career placements, system administration, data management.
  • Experience with the Orbis Outcome Platform (also known as Elevate) for administering post-secondary career and experience programs.
  • Working knowledge of Desire 2 Learn (D2L).
  • Proficiency in online platforms for virtual meetings (Zoom, Team, Google).
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows environment and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of the Calgary and Alberta business economy and employer needs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in quickly understanding a business and being able to extrapolate its needs, and then propose solutions (via placements).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and partners at all levels.
  • Experience providing advising, mentorship and services to a diverse client group.
  • High level of personal effectiveness and strong organizational skills, together with the ability to work to deadlines while managing multiple tasks.
  • Result oriented while showing initiative to identify areas for improvement and potential solutions.
  • Proven record of success in working in in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities, while providing excellent customer service.
  • Proven experience in conducting market research and analysis.
