The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Broadcast Technologist to support the CBC North technical team. This team supports content creation groups with technical issues and helps implement technologies across our several locations throughout the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

From the virtualization of services to the implementation of Audio and video-over-IP and beyond, to the introduction of centralized and automated workflows, your input will impact and grow CBC North.

Every day your hands-on knowledge, your growing expertise, your problem-solving skills and your ability to troubleshoot technical issues will be called into play as you work closely with clients facing issues with content creation, backend systems, studios and control rooms. Your patience, sense of urgency and responsiveness will ensure that our content is prepped, scheduled and on the air or digitally available.

Qualifications

What you bring

The education. You have a diploma or equivalent years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Broadcast, or a related field.

The experience. You have a general understanding and knowledge of computers, networking, IP infrastructure and maintenance of equipment, systems and relevant software technologies. You are familiar with Windows Server Systems, MacOS and Linux.

The extra skills. You may have exposure to managing backend systems, databases and remote support of server systems.

The interest. You want to learn more about audio, video and TV; Radio Broadcast networks.

The communication skills. You are skilled at communicating effectively with internal partners, relaying your opinions with sensitivity. You know how to listen and you understand perspectives. You can expertly analyze and synthesize information and document technical specifications.

The positive, collaborative attitude. You can work in a stressful and demanding environment of a production center, in carrying out its duties effectively under tight deadlines while providing quality work and maintaining a professional and positive attitude.

The relationship building finesse. You are empathetic and patient. You understand the user perspective and your priority is providing rapid, stable solutions and support. You are guided by a sense of urgency. You can nurture strong two-way relationships with peers, partners, clients, staff, senior managers and vendors.

The analytical skills and creativity. You can think through issues and innovate solutions. You are proactive and creative in your approach. You are a problem-solver, a researcher and a detail-oriented planner.
