The Recreation & Cultural Services Department is seeking motivated individuals to deliver the 2026 Summer Day Camp Program for children 4 to 13 years of age. Reporting to the day camp supervisory team, the Camp Counsellor will contribute to the organization and operation of safe, efficient and quality children's programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and implement activities which promote and reinforce positive values.
Enhance self-esteem and encourage appropriate skill development.
Provide safe supervision of camp participants during the day as well as pre-camp (early morning) and post camp (late afternoon) periods as needed.
Perform first aid as needed and report to the Camp Supervisory staff.
Ensure proper sign in and sign out procedures of campers.
Liaise with parents/ guardians and responds to inquiries and/or concerns and resolves. issues or refers to appropriate staff.
Fulfill all duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisory team and works collaboratively with all team members.
Competencies & Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age by the start of camp (July 6, 2026).
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate by the start of camp.
Previous experience working with children and/or youth in a day camp related environment is preferred.
Able to swim up to 50m and tread water for one minute without a lifejacket.
Available to work shifts between the hours of 6:45am and 6:00pm Monday to Friday for the months of July and August at various camp locations.
Current certifications such as High Five training, Safeguard (Lifesaving Society) Counsellor in Training Program, Babysitting Course, National Coaching Certification Program or equivalent would be considered an asset.
Able to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public
Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
Must be able to attend various evening and weekend training dates in the months of May and June.
This position offers an hourly rate of $18.18 (2025 rates).
