The YMCA of Central East Ontario operates out of three major Health, Fitness and Recreation facilities as well as approximately 20 community locations. Our team consists of more than 350 staff members and over 150 volunteers. Position Summary:



Reporting to Camp Coordinator, you will be responsible for the direct supervision, instruction and leading of YMCA campers while delivering a high-quality program that reflects the missions and values of the organization.

Wage:

$17.65 Hourly; Depending on funding

Vacancy:

Multiple roles available until filled for our Summer Camp from May - September

Responsibilities:



Lead and supervise groups of children by planning, organizing, delivering engaging daily activities that promote creativity, participation and fun. Provide direct leadership and supervision of campers while maintaining appropriate camper-to-staff ratios. Actively engage with campers throughout the entire program day, fostering positive relationships and social connection (including swimming). Ensure quality and consistency in the delivery of all-day camp programming. Build strong, positive relationships with campers and parents through clear, professional and supportive communication. Work collaboratively with fellow counsellors and supervisors to problem-solve and adapt programming as needed. Provide exceptional attention to Health & Safety and supervision of campers. Maintain structured daily routines for groups, ensuring activities, transitions and required documentation are completed accurately and on time. Provide formal and informal feedback to parents regarding their child(ren) experience and participation. Contribute to the healthy child development of campers by supporting physical, social, emotional, and creative growth. Role model excellent member service and uphold YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility & inclusiveness through interactions with children, parents and staff. Duties and responsibilities outlined are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be adjusted as required to meet the needs of the program.

What you will bring to the position:



15+ years of age. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Valid Standard First aid and CPR Level C certification. Valid and Clear Vulnerable Sector Check for candidates over 18. Completion of a Leader-In-Training program is an asset.

Experience:



Experience working in a camp setting or equivalent experience working with children (eg. Babysitting). Experience leading children's activities like crafts, games, music, or sports.

Working Conditions:



The anticipated start date of this position is June 29, 2026, until September 5, 2026 (plus staff training in June). Staff must be available throughout month of June 2026 for Mandatory Staff Training. Camp hours are Monday-Friday between 8:00am to 5:00pm. Group hire event will be held February 22, 2026. Hours are assigned to team members based on registration numbers. Must be comfortable working outdoors in a high paced environment.
