What do you offer?





The YMCA of the National Capital Region's Y Outdoor Centre (YOC) and YMCA Camp Otonabee is a year round Outdoor Education and Summer Camp facility that serves more than 10,000 participants each year. The YOC provides an opportunity for children, youth and adults to engage in outdoor activities, enjoy the natural environment, build self-confidence and establish lasting friendships. The YOC is focused on providing exceptional leadership training and outdoor education and adventure experiences that will promote healthy lifestyles and encourage positive relationships with the natural world.



The Assistant Coordinator of Outdoor Education and Camping is responsible for assisting with the overall portfolio of the camping branch, including supporting the Y Outdoor Centre and Camp Otonabee.


Some of the tasks of this position include:




Assisting in the coordination of camp logistics. Assisting with the hiring of seasonal staff, including interviewing, selection and training. Assisting in coaching and providing feedback to seasonal staff members. Supporting operations, including kitchen and program shifts. Communicating with camper families about their camper's time at camp.

The successful candidate will have the following:




Education




Undergraduate degree in business, recreation, human kinetics, social services, education or a related field is an asset

Language




Ability to work in English Bilingualism is an asset

Experience, Skills and Abilities




Minimum 2-3 years' related exprience Minimum 2 years' supervisory experience Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Flexible to work days, evenings and weekends Certification(s) in Challenge Course Facilitation, National Lifeguard Service, Wilderness First Aid, Paddle Canada, Challenge Course Practitioner Level 2 and membership in related associations are all considered assets Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and relationship-building skills Ability to maintain calm demeanor in stressful situations Ability to act as a positive role model for campers, staff and volunteers

Additional Requirements




Applicants must be 18 years old by June 2026. Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification. Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada. A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position. Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
