Assistant Coordinator, College of Engineering, SCIFI Science Camps

Summary:



The College of Engineering is seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual to join our team in a part-time capacity for half of the year, with an increase to full-time hours during the spring/summer months. This position will operate at 0.5 FTE from September through February and will increase to 1.0 FTE from March through August. This individual will participate in the hiring of summer staff and assist the Coordinator in overseeing project development of classroom workshops and weeklong summer camps and other Outreach events. This is largely an administrative and planning position for the majority of the summer, although you will also be required to teach workshops or camps during the winter term, school workshops in May and June as well as camp during busier weeks in July and August. Also, will assist the Coordinator with the day to day management of 26-30 instructors.


Duties and Responsibilities:



Work with youth and other university students in a team environment; Guide and support other instructors in their project development; Organizing projects for mobile camps; Design original science activities; Demonstrated ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds; Participate in the hiring of summer staff; Oversee project development; Develop workshops and weeklong summer camps; Workshop scheduling, tracking budgets and spending on camp materials; Supervising high school volunteers

Qualifications:




A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education, or related field is desired. The successful candidate will preferably have experience in SciFi camps, and project development in relation to STEM. Has worked for SCIFI Science Camps before or has a minimum 4 months working with children at a similar program. Leadership and organizational experience will be a strong asset for applicants. Required skills include the ability to work within a team, think creatively and problem solve, work effectively with others, communicate effectively using good verbal and written communication skills, be adaptive/versatile, and work on multiple projects with competing demands to meet deadlines.
