: Call for Applications: Board of Directors - Gwich'in Development Corporation
Deadline:
July 3, 2025
Overview:
The Gwich'in Tribal Council (GTC) invites applications from qualified individuals to serve on the Board of Directors of the Gwich'in Development Corporation (GDC). The GDC is a key economic development entity wholly owned by the GTC, dedicated to advancing the economic interests of the Gwich'in people.
Background Information:
Serving on the Board of Directors of the GDC is a unique opportunity to contribute to the economic empowerment and self-determination of the Gwich'in people. As a board member, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the corporation's strategic direction, ensuring its financial health, and upholding its mission to benefit the Gwich'in communities.
Established shortly after the signing of the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement in 1992, the GDC is wholly owned by the Gwich'in Tribal Council (GTC). Currently headquartered in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, the GDC focuses on forming partnerships with experienced companies interested in the resources and opportunities within the Gwich'in Settlement Area. By combining external expertise and technology with traditional knowledge and cultural experience, the GDC has successfully navigated the competitive economy.
The Gwich'in Settlement Region encompasses parts of the Yukon and Northwest Territories, including the communities of Inuvik, Fort McPherson, Aklavik, and Tsiigehtchic. Under the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, the GTC holds ownership of 16,264 square kilometers of land in parcels throughout the Gwich'in Settlement Area and Yukon. These lands are active with economic development projects, such as the proposed Mackenzie Gas Pipeline Project and other oil and gas explorations. The GDC ensures that local residents are involved in and benefit from these opportunities.
As a GDC board member, you will be expected to:
Provide Strategic Oversight: Guide the corporation's direction in alignment with its mission and the broader goals of the GTC.
Ensure Financial Stewardship: Oversee budgeting and financial reporting to maintain organizational health and transparency.
