As a Building Maintenance Lead Hand, you will provide an oversight and coordination of preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective repairs for the Calgary Police Service (CPS) facilities. You will oversee services provided including janitorial, landscaping, snow and ice removal, roofing, overhead doors, painting/finishes, automated vehicle gates, building envelope, fencing, and flooring. Primary duties include:Serve as the primary point of contact for the Janitorial contractor across all CPS facilities. Monitor and evaluate the quality and consistency of janitorial services, ensuring compliance with contract standards and CPS expectations. Conduct regular inspections of facilities to assess cleanliness, sanitation, and overall presentation. Address and resolve service deficiencies or complaints, coordinating corrective actions with the contractor. Assist in the development and implementation of cleaning schedules, including special projects, deep cleans, and seasonal requirements. Oversee daily operations of the Lock shop, ensuring secure and efficient management of keys, locks, and access control systems. Coordinate installation, repair, and replacement of locks, door hardware, and security hardware across CPS facilities. Supervise contractors and internal staff performing lock-related work, ensuring quality and adherence to standards. Conduct site inspections and audits to verify workmanship, safety practices, and adherence to specifications. Coordinate with contractors and internal teams to ensure timely execution of occupancy-related tasks.



Working Conditions:

May be exposed to biohazards, bodily fluids, or contaminated areas during emergency cleanups or maintenance in detention zones. Regularly works in noisy, dusty, or odorous environments, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and janitorial areas.

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) and a minimum of 2 years related experience in Facility Maintenance. A Journeyperson Red Seal Endorsement Trade Certificate in a related field is required. Intermediate computer skills are required. Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Excel, and related productivity tools for communication and workflow optimization. Pre-employment Requirements

An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Pre-employment Drug Test:

An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
