The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work, field work and workshops.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out maintenance of hand and power tools as well as equipment and machinery associated with the Sector (printmaking, sculpture, clay, woodshop, metal, plaster, etc. studios) including repairs, sharpening or making adjustments to existing equipment as required;
Ensures studios and storage spaces in the Sector are clean, orderly and prepared for class;
Distributes, retrieves and ensures proper and orderly storage of tools;
Provides technical assistance including but not limited to building specialty items like displays, easels and setting up installations during classes, exhibitions, presentations, etc.;
Carries out demonstrations to students regarding shop safety and the appropriate use of all equipment, as needed;
Maintains inventory of all tools and equipment in Fine Arts sector;
Orders materials when required by Faculty;
Other related tasks.
Qualifications & Conditions
QUALIFICATIONS:
To hold a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
CONDITIONS:
Advanced knowledge of safe work practices regarding power & hand-held tools, equipment and machinery;
Advanced knowledge of mechanics of stationary power tools, hand power tools, as well as various hand tools associated with a standard woodworking facility;
Advanced soft-skills (clear communicator, works well in team settings, time management etc.);
Advanced English & Basic French language skills (testing may be required);
Intermediate knowledge of wood finishing required;
Advanced knowledge of wood joinery, materials used in construction, as well as a knowledge of materials used in the Fine Arts milieu;
Basic metal shop knowledge;
Basic modeling and casting knowledge;
First Aid certification an asset.
