Make a difference
Reporting to the Manager, Data Governance, the Business Planner Data Governance leads the implementation and adoption of Toronto Community Housing's data governance framework. This role focuses on translating the data strategy into operational reality by developing governance processes, driving organizational adoption of governance initiatives, supporting initiatives and managing projects that further Toronto Community Housing's strategic goals in a manner that supports TCHC's tenant focused culture. They are responsible for identifying emerging problems including data quality and information management challenges and proposing solutions to senior management and the executive team. The Business Planner works across all business units to establish clear data ownership, implement quality controls, and ensure compliance with governance policies while supporting strategic decision-making through improved data management practices.
What you'll do
Develop and implement data governance initiatives
Plan, co-ordinate, and monitor the rollout of data governance policies, standards and procedures across all business units
Conduct data quality assessments and develop remediation plans in collaboration with data owners and stewards
Maintain the enterprise data catalogue and support metadata management activities
Support data steward training programs and provide ongoing guidance on governance practices
Develop implementation roadmaps and project plans for governance initiatives
Ensure initiatives are delivered in accordance with internal, shareholder, or other requirements
Conduct data impact assessments and lead data projects to embed data governance standards
Stakeholder Engagement and Change Management
Facilitate data governance workshops and training sessions to drive adoption
Build relationships with data owners, stewards and business users across departments
Develop communication strategies and materials to increase governance awareness
Support change management activities during governance implementation
Consult and collaborate with other business units and executive leadership as appropriate to gain their feedback on key data governance initiatives
Policy and Procedure Development
Project manage and oversee the development and implementation, and review of new and existing governance policies and procedures
Consult with relevant stakeholders on the development of new and review of existing policies
Collaborate with Strategic Communications and Learning & Organizational Development to develop an implementation plan for newly developed policies
Reporting and Communication
Create reports for the executive leadership team and Board of Directors on matters including governance initiatives, policy, performance measures, evaluation, strategic initiatives, data governance progress, and other areas
Develop communication strategies and materials to drive governance awareness and adoption
Create performance dashboards to track governance adoption and data quality metrics
Write reports for the board and other audiences as required
What you'll need
Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (e.g., Information Management, Library & Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Systems, Business Administration, Social Sciences)
A graduate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred
5-7 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: data governance, data strategy, business intelligence initiatives, data controls, metadata management, stakeholder engagement & communication, data quality management
Experience with data governance platforms and tools
Experience supporting the adoption of new data policies, standards and definitions across diverse business units
Understanding of data privacy regulations and compliance
Proficiency with computerized business applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software applications
Proven ability to analyze and interpret data, prepare reports and statements
Proven ability to interact effectively with and engage a variety of stakeholders including: staff, tenants, business partners and community groups
Excellent project management, and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills
