Welltec North America & Caribbean is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to establish, grow, and oversee our Well Completion Solutions (WCS) business activities across Canada. This role combines the operational leadership responsibilities with strategic growth, client engagement, and regional business development responsibilities.
You will be responsible for building and leading Welltec's Canadian Well Completion Solutions (WCS) footprint, driving commercial growth with operators across Canadian land basins, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and delivering disciplined execution of a technical sales plan aligned with Welltec's corporate strategy.
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape Welltec's presence in Canada by blending front-line operational expertise, customer-facing business development, and country-level leadership.
Responsibilities
Management & Operations Leadership
Collaborate with Welltec's operations team to establish an operational presence in Canada, supporting all existing and future Welltec WCS activities across the country.
Manage oversight of equipment, materials, administrative functions, and local support resources.
Leadership in building and developing a pool of field engineers based in Canada to support WCS operations domestically and internationally.
Gain in-depth knowledge of Welltec's WCS product lines, equipment working principles, and operational procedures.
Ensure compliance with all local laws, regulatory requirements, customs rules, and Welltec corporate procedures.
Map and interpret Canadian content requirements and advise operations on how to accommodate them as required.
Support operations with governmental relations and local industry engagement.
Present and ensure implementation of Welltec policies across all Canadian operations.
Support implementation of an Emergency Response Plan for Canada.
Advise customers and business partners on Welltec services, operational best practices, and deployment considerations.
Business Development & Commercial Growth
Deliver annual revenue targets through disciplined development and execution of a regional WCS sales plan.
Develop and propose technical solutions using a strong understanding of downhole tools, drilling and cementing, and well completion systems.
Provide formal and informal client engagement through presentations, tender submissions, proposals, and industry networking events.
Actively manage and report on business development progress, industry activity, client trends, and competitor intelligence.
Build critical mass in target basins within agreed timelines, focusing on both client acquisition and retention.
Management, Reporting & Collaboration
Communicate regularly with the Sales Director WCS, NAM & Caribbean, including monthly reporting on opportunities, client activity, and operational performance.
Support in training, and development of local staff to support growth and operational excellence.
Coordinate with NAM QHSE to maintain safety standards, operational manuals, and regulatory compliance.
Lead or participate in meetings, presentations, and support visits across the region.
Maintain continuous improvement of cost structure and operational efficiency.
Safety
Report all near misses, hazards, and incidents promptly.
Maintain and promote a strong safety culture throughout Canadian operations.
Ensure local QHSE procedures, emergency readiness, and operational instructions are implemented and followed.
Authority
Authority to enter into agreements with vendors upon alignment with the Sales Director WCS, SVP, and Corporate Legal Counsel.
Access to all necessary operational and contractual documentation.
The Candidate
Technical & Operational Background
Degree in Petroleum/Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
Three to six years of experience in the oilfield service industry, with at least three years in front-line field operations such as wireline, intervention, cementing, completion tools, or drilling engineering.
Strong practical understanding of well construction, geology, e-line or wireline, and well design.
Ability to gain expert-level knowledge of Welltec product lines and operational processes.
Leadership & Commercial Strengths
Proven ability to build customer relationships and represent the company at meetings, events, and industry functions.
Skilled in developing solutions for clients and proposing them through presentations, tenders, and commercial negotiations.
Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret industry trends, client needs, and competitive landscapes.
Personality & Professional Attributes
Personable, relatable, and comfortable with formal and informal client engagement.
Teachable, coachable, and willing to challenge conventional thinking.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio; CRM experience is an asset.
Must be authorized to work and live in Canada.
