Business Development And Sustainability Manager

Toronto, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

New Society Institute is looking for a Permanent Full Time

Business Development and Sustainability Manager

focused on the issues impacting Indigenous, Black, racialized, immigrant and refugee, Deaf, and 2SLGBTQAI+ people with and without disabilities

The New Society Institute (NSI) is a non-profit research, design, and social development organization that partners with systemically marginalized communities to create systems that serve their needs. We work to move voices from the edges to the centre -- supporting equality and inclusion across all sectors.

NSI manages The Accessibility Exchange (TAE) an on-line platform that connects disability and Deaf communities, and supporters, with organizations that are "regulated" or supervised and monitored by the federal government. The purpose of connecting federal regulated organizations with Deaf and disabled people is so that together, they can work on accessibility projects, plans, and reports, as required by the Accessible Canada Act.

As TAE grows, we are working towards becoming financially secure by diversifying revenue streams and reducing reliance on government funding. We are currently seeking a Business Development & Sustainability Manager to engage federally regulated organizations and to build The Accessibility Exchange to a self-sustaining non-profit organization.

We are deeply committed to accessibility, inclusion, and continuous improvement. As we enhance and expand our platform, this position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of diverse sector engagement and fundraising, and who is passionate about accessibility and building long-term sustainability for a mission-driven organization.

This role is ideal for a developer who values meaningful work, thrives independently, and enjoys thoughtful problem-solving in a collaborative, impact-driven environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

FRO Engagement

Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, ensuring high-quality experience with TAE services. Gather FRO user feedback to inform service improvements and organizational strategy. Develop and deliver sales and marketing outreach initiatives to engage new and existing FROs. Promote client success stories and testimonials to strengthen community and funder relations.

Resource Development & Fundraising

Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue from private sector partners, foundations, and individual donors. Cultivate and steward relationships with corporate sponsors, philanthropic organizations, and high-value donors. Identify and pursue grant opportunities outside of government funding. Work with leadership to design campaigns, events, and initiatives that generate sustainable income. Track, analyze, and report on fundraising results and progress toward financial independence.

Required Qualifications

Relevant graduate degree related to Business, Sociology, Disability Studies or Social Work management. Experience in nonprofit management, business development, fundraising, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, sponsorship development, or business development and sales. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to connect authentically with both clients and funders. Experience with clients or community engagement in a nonprofit or social service setting. Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to innovate revenue-generating strategies. Knowledge of the Canadian nonprofit funding landscape is an asset. Mission-driven with a passion for social impact. Relationship-builder who is comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders. Results-oriented with strong organizational skills. Creative and resourceful, with a "builder" mentality.

Accessibility & Inclusion

We are committed to equitable and inclusive hiring practices. If you require any accommodations at any stage of the recruitment process, please let us know -- we're happy to work with you to meet your needs.

The New Society Institute works with a diversity of Black, Indigenous, immigrant, refugee, Deaf, disabled and 2SLGBTQAI+ peoples, we thus encourage applications from these communities.
