Reporting to the Coordinator Facility Operations, this is manual work of limited complexity and responsibility in performing janitorial and custodial tasks on an assigned shift in and around Christine Sinclair Community Centre. An incumbent sweeps, washes, waxes, polishes and vacuums floors; washes hand basins, sinks, toilets, and tile work and replenishes supplies in washrooms; cleans windows, doors, glass partitions, and painted surfaces; sweeps sidewalks, clears snow and picks up refuse; performs minor repair and servicing on building, equipment and facilities as required. In addition, the Building Service Worker patrols building and grounds to ensure security, answers inquiries and gives out routine information and assistance to the public when required, sets up tables and chairs and other furniture for scheduled events or activities in the facility and removes on completion. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation, preferably supplemented by some experience in janitorial work and minor maintenance of building and equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial work, general regulations and procedures governing facility operations, routine building maintenance and minor repair tasks. Ability to perform light manual work, understand and follow simple oral or written instructions, deal courteously and effectively with the public. Skill in the operation of tools and equipment used in the work. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

This position is posted under the terms of the 2023 Inside Memorandum of Agreement to enable the senior capable applicant to be confirmed into the regular full time position, subject to the successful passing of skills tests applicable to this classification, and that they are not subject to a performance management plan, and they have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months.
