About Our Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Assistant Director Asset Management, The Building Performance Lead will lead the development and implementation of Building Performance and Energy Management measures as recommended from the Energy Conservation Program which supports the Nova Scotia Environmental Goals and Climate Reduction Act. Working with project managers, engineers, management and senior management on program planning, delivery, decision making, and communications to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Managing multiple projects within desired cost, time, and quality parameters.
  • Leading energy benchmarking program, improving energy data accessibility and reporting, implementing energy performance initiatives and metrics.
  • Managing strategies for energy use awareness and improvement programs as well as monitoring and reporting on program results.
  • Identifying shortcomings and suggesting improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures. Involved in change management.
  • Identifying and designing programs to evaluate and plan for future direction including program(s) development, business analysis, providing advice and policy recommendations, as well as providing recommendations for resource and capacity management.
  • Managing strategies for energy use awareness and improvement programs as well as monitoring and reporting on program results.
  • Guiding and training others on achieving compliance and improved building performance with applicable codes, regulations, and best practices in management and/or operations.
Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience preferably in Energy Management. A Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification would be well suited for this position.

Knowledge of building systems, programs and software as per below would benefit:
  • Electrical, Lighting, Building Automation Systems
  • Architectural and Structural
  • Mechanical including HVAC, Heating, and Conveying Equipment
  • Site and Site Components
  • Specialty Systems, i.e., Server Rooms, Humidification and Refrigeration systems
  • Excellent computer skills are required, hands on experience in BOMA BEST, RETScreen, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager
The Building Performance Lead manages/delivers energy conservation and efficiency initiatives for the provincial government building portfolio. This position provides advanced technical expertise to meet the objectives of the NS Environmental Goals and Climate Reduction Act. This role works in partnership with project managers, engineers, trades personnel and building specialists to identify and design programs to enhance asset management, facility operations and maintenance to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through managing multiple projects. You also demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and experience of onsite construction work and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. You will be required to be in possession of a valid Driver's License that will allow you to frequent project sites regularly and independently; and exposure to various energy standards and codes including NECB, ASHRAE 90.1, and LEED, Zero Carbon Building Standards.

You will provide technical guidance when required on:
  • analyzing data from multiple sources to draw appropriate conclusions and make suitable recommendations,
  • estimation and costing, budgeting, and finance tasks,
  • acquiring, organizing, protecting, and processing data to fulfill business objectives, and
  • analyzing data trends for use in reports to help guide decision making.
You use comprehensive knowledge and skills to work independently while providing guidance and training to others on planning, organizing, prioritizing, and overseeing activities to efficiently meet business objectives.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:
  • Completion of a 2-year Technologist diploma and eight (8) years of related experience

Working Conditions

This position has a combination of office and field work. Field work occurs in adverse weather conditions and normal hazards associated with construction sites and working with or near heavy equipment are present.

This position will require climbing, working at heights and/or working within confined spaces.

You must be able to work under adverse conditions in times of emergency and sometimes overtime may be required.

Additional Information

Frequent travel across the Province of Nova Scotia is a requirement of this position (a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record is required).

This position requires the successful candidate to work on-site.

Salary Range: $3,001.65 - $3,525.41 Bi-Weekly
