BCIT\xe2\x80\x99s Campus Planning and Facilities department is seeking a temporary, full-time Building Energy Performance Manager. Leads and supports strategic building automation system (BAS) initiatives to improve energy-efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Oversees the BCIT BAS Team, including employees, consultants and contractors. Exercises leadership capability to support change management initiatives and operational excellence execution within the Campus Planning & Facilities (CPF) Department and in collaboration with BCIT schools, service departments, and BCIT\xe2\x80\x99s utility partners.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEYACCOUNTABILITIES:
Identifies, plans, executes projects and programs to address energy conservation and demand reduction measures through the BAS, focusing on optimization of existing equipment at low capital cost.
Leverages BCIT\xe2\x80\x99s fault detection and diagnostics software to monitor and identify energy-saving opportunities and equipment failures.
Liaises with project team to assist with technical peer review, and project commissioning. Projects may include BAS upgrades, new building construction, major renewal or renovations.
Liaises with other departments within Facilities Services, such as the energy team, HVAC, power engineers, electricians, etc.
Ensures and meets all utility partner reporting requirements.
Provides strategic advisory services to CPF, BCIT schools and departments on energy and GHG reduction initiatives. Ensures such initiatives are highlighted and integrated within programs, projects and operations throughout BCIT. Responds to BCIT stakeholders in regard to optimal operations of facilities energy systems, and takes appropriate corrective action as required to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes.
Develops reports and policy proposals for the Institute related to energy and GHG reduction practices. Reports out on realized results, both to CPF and to BCIT community as appropriate.
Evaluates and provides recommendation on building systems upgrades to align with campus master planning and educational programming requirements.
Oversees BAS team project and program budgets.
Participates in professional organizations and remains current in strategic enrolment management practices and methods. Identifies improvement opportunities, recommending potential application to enhance the Institute\xe2\x80\x99s energy management practices.
Manages reporting staff, including selection, coaching, mentoring, development, performance management and all other people-management practices.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
Completion of energy efficiency training such as Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager, Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET) Energy Management Training, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) professional accreditation is an asset.
Five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in a relevant controls/building automation system position (both hardware and software) including direct experience with BAS design, implementation, programming, and commissioning.
Excellent verbal and written communication. Experience with creating and delivering presentations.
Strong leadership capabilities, including supervising unionized staff and mentoring a team.
Computer literacy with standard office software.
