Set up, operate, or tend milling machines to drill, bore, ream, mill or countersink metal work pieces.
Responsibilities
Lift work pieces onto work tables either manually or with hoists;
Install tools and spindles;
Verify conformance of machined work to specifications, using measuring instruments (micrometers, callipers);
Study machining instructions, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional and finish specifications, sequence of operations, set ups and tooling requirements;
Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools according to machining instructions;
Observe boring operations to detect malfunctions;
Position and secure work pieces on tables, using bolts, jigs, clamps, shims, or other holding devices;
Change worn cutting tools, using wrenches;
Perform minor assembly, such as fastening parts with nuts, bolts, and screws, using power tools and hand tools;
Establish zero reference points on work pieces, such as at the intersections of two edges or over hole locations;
Sharpen cutting tools, using bench grinders;
Verify that work piece reference lines are parallel to the axis of table rotation, using dial indicators mounted in spindles;
Filling and maintaining fluid levels;
Rolling and flipping work pieces with crane
Rigging large weldments and work pieces
Daily housekeeping and maintaining equipment and surrounding work area;
Uphold all health & safety rules and regulations per Company Health & Safety Manual and Ontario's Occupational Health & Safety Act;
Work in an organizational manner, documenting work performed in Job Sheets and submitting job sheets to reporting manager on a weekly basis;
Educational Requirements
Completion of high school
Completion of formal apprenticeship and technical training from an Accredited Canadian College.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance;
Knowledge of CNC machine language(G&M Programming Codes);
Proficient in Heidenhain an asset
Ability to do own programming
Ability to analyze and interpret engineering drawings;
Ability to function effectively and productively within a team focused work group;
Speak/read/write fluently in English;
Knowledge of mathematical basic calculations;
Knowledge of raw materials, productions processes, quality control, , and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods;
Knowledge and understanding of safety and safety precautions involved;
Hand-arm steadiness and dexterity;
Ability to operate an overhead crane and lift truck.
Ability and comfortable to work at heights
Working Conditions
40-60 hours per week
